Opinion on Cannon TS7240 Tall/Wide Body Gun Safe

Check out SAMs Club (shown on line)- for $700 you can get a nice Liberty safe - want to say 20 some gun, also fire resistant.

Now I am concerned about the safes weight of 700lbs. It is a older double wide and ain't real sure about the flooring. I could get the same safe just 60" tall instead of 72" tall that is only 600lbs for the same price. I really would like to have had the tall and wide safe for the extra room. Anyone else have a double wide and a heavy gun safe on the floor of it? Anyone know if the flooring would hold it up? I would think it would but not sure. THANKS!!!

When I bought my Outdoorsman safe (made by Cannon) 10 years ago we lived in a doublewide. I simply added an extra pier of concrete blocks under the home right where the safe was placed. I also put a piece of 3/4" plywood under the safe on top of the subfloor - I cut the carpet away first. Had no problems at all. My safe is a 30 gun model and weighs 750 lbs. empty. I can see absolutely no way someone could pry my safe open - the hinge is actually inside and back around the corner of the opening and my safe has locking lugs on the other 3 sides of the door and they are 1" diameter. I have the pushbutton electronic lock and 3-spoke handle. My door has glass relockers - if someone smashes the lock or handle assembly with say a sledgehammer, the relockers break and the door can only be opened by a professional. The door also has hardplate to deter drilling. My safe is rated 1500 degrees for 30 min. I now live in a home that has concrete slab floor - no worries anymore about the weight of the thing !! Cannon has an excellent warranty - if someone attempts a break-in and damages it or the safe is in a fire - the gasket melts and seals it, Cannon will come open the safe for you and replace it. How can you beat that ?

If there is one truism about gun safes, it's "buy a bigger one than you think you'll ever need".

I just bought a second, very large safe used on craig's. It was made in central California and is about 20 years old.

My first was a very good Cannon Patriot 30" model. The seller talked me into that from the smaller one I started looking at. I keep this one in the house with a dehumidifier rod.

Guns, especially my air guns, breed like rabbits, and next thing you know I was out of room.

This second safe is big enough for me to get inside. It is less secure than the Patriot, but the average person is not going to pry it open in any short amount of time. I was told it weighed 1000 pounds and have no reason to disbelieve that, after the three of us moved it.

I keep the high value items in the Patriot and everything else in this beast. Bolted to a slab, I don't think anyone is getting into it in a half hour, and it keeps little fingers and opportunistic burglars out. Pros will probably get it anyway if they think you have enough value to spend the time and energy.

Bolting it to the floor is a very good idea. Mounting a fire sprinkler over it is another. Anyway, I think I am good in the safe department for a while.

What exactly will the plywood under the safe do? Do I have it cut the exact size of the safe and can I lay it ontop of the carpet without having to cut the newer carpet? I believe I can put the extra blocks under where the safe is that sounds pretty easy just stack them up as close as I can get under the area then tighten up the fit with a piece of wood. It might be a little hard for me to find where the middle of the safe will be but I should be able to get it close too it. THANKS!!!

I have this exact safe bought from tractor supply you can not go wrong for the price... it works well for all my stuff thats in there...
