I had one dealer quote me a price of $22,300 of a new 4940 with a FEL. I like the tractor but have not shopped it around much with other dealers. Anyone have any comments as to how close to this price I should actually expect to pay?
So far this tractor is still my fist choice. I friend of mine has a JD 990 which he loves. Tried one out but seems a little small and underpowered compared to the 4940. Found a new one with a FEL for $19,000.
Also looked at a new, New Holland TC48, 48 hp 4wd and a FEL that I also liked and was quoted $24,000 for it. Down side to it was that the dealer is 90 minutes away, so parts or repairs could be a hassle. But the name has been around longer than has Montana which is relatively new.
BTW, the tractor would be used on about 40 acres. 1/3 wooded, 2/3 meadow. Mostly to pull a brush hog, and do general work. But ,I might eventually want to pull a small square baler too.
