Flusher,

The dealer gave me the name and phone number of the previous owner and I did talk to him. Seemed like a real good old country boy. He used the tractor for haying and light tillage on a cattle and tobacco farm. He said it does not use a drop of anything between services, and he also said it starts perfectly without being plugged in during the winter months. He told me he hoped that the new M9540 he traded for is half as good as his old M7950.

Well if you figure in the cost of the injector pump and injectors being overhauled, and the tie rod ends. Also the cost of the fluid and filters being changed. How much would be a good round number for the cost of the repairs? Would $1000 be about right? that added to your wanting to pay about $5500 for a tractor would bring the price up to $6500 with the repairs.

If you bought a used tractor then had to do some repairs yourself you would be putting some more money into it. The pictures look like a nice tractor. I would try to get the price on down but in the end it will come down to how much the tractor is worth to you. To another person somethings worth can be alot different from one thing to the next. My 2 cents.

The dealer said they spent $1483 on it. Like I said in an earlier post, if he hadn't, I would've had to. I guess to me emotionally it is worth it because I've always wanted a 6950 or 7950 2wd, don't know why, I just want one.

Well, I think I may switch gears. I found this M7030 here that I had my local dealer call about and turns out it is real nice, 2600 hrs with a new clutch. I think I can get it for about $8000 and it is 10 years newer with 7400 less hours. My local dealer is negotiating on it for me right now.

You say your dealer is working on the deal? May I ask why you are going thru your dealer on a third party used tractor?? i would think your dealer would want to make a little money on the deal?? Why not cut out the middle man and save a few dollars?

My local Kubota dealer is probably the best friend I have. He is the godfather of my son, but he doesn't have a tractor that suites my needs. I want him to buy it and add $500 profit or so and then I'll buy it from him. I know that seems odd, but he has done a lot for me over the years, so I want to go through him, even if it costs me another $500-$1000. He loans me a 15' brush hog 2-3 times a year when I need one and once he loaned me a 10' disc for a year and never charges me a nickel for renting any of it.

My biggest problem is I am in love with this series of tractor. I really like the old platform Kubota tractors. My good friend who is a NH and Kubota dealer here has a super sharp 5600 Ford with a QT Ford loader with 4100 hours on it that he'll sell me for $8000, this tractor is about an 8 on a 1-10. But I am just not a fan of those old straddle mount Fords. I know they are super tough, but I am not comfortable on them, and I am afraid my little boy might fall down between the open area between the wheel and fender on one of those Fords when he rides with me, and that I can not have.
You should not be letting him or anyone else ride with you.

That's good news. Haying and light tillage likely means that the engine, tranny, rear end and pto are not worn out. Check out that 3pt hitch to make sure it works OK. Also check the gauges and lights. As a minumum you need a working coolant temp and oil pressure gauge.

I'm from MO and I know how frigid it can get sometimes in that part of the country.

In July06 I bought a 1964 MF-135 diesel with 4600 hours on it. Engine rebuild kit and new crankshaft was installed at 3000 hours. Crankshaft was cracked in the front bearing (the original owner ran a hydraulic pump off the front of the motor which sometimes causes this type of problem). It was used in the olive orchards around here to pull a tandem disc and to run a flail mower. No heavy tillage. That 45 hp Perkins engine is sweet.

IMHO.. a ford 5600 has one seat.. and thus only takes one passanger.. also.. it should have flat tops or clamheel fenders .. unless you try to crawl between the tire and the fender.. it'd be real hard if the fender is placed int he correct position for the tire / rim ( yes.. they are adjustable).. also.. the running boards on a 5xxx are almost big enough to count as a platform. I have a 5000.. awesome tractor.. IMHO.. one of fords best basic designes.. the 5600 had hyd improvements too. 8k for a good 5600 with loader is a good deal..

soundguy

Thanks for all the replies.

Soundguy, I too feel that 7K is too much money. I'd like to buy it for $5,500 or so. Part of the price is what the dealer has spent on it. He said they took it in the shop, changed every filter on the thing and every drop of fluids. The put new tie rods on it, and they had the injection pump redone as well as the injectors. All of these things I'd of had to bring it home and do, so it is kind of six of one half a dozen of the other.

There are a lot of real nice tractors here around home, but you can't find an old XX50 series Kubota for anything, and that is what I want.
