I'm wondering if anyone out there has any thoughts on mmms for the b3030. I committed to buying the 60" because of scalping concerns - my land is hilly. But now I'm second guessing because of the drive over mount capability and the ability to mow tighter to trees etc.

Any experiences with the 72 on hills?

Thanks,

Charles

Before I bought my B3030 the dealer brought a B2910 demo with a 72"MMM. You might see if your dealer has a demo or used unit with a 72"MMM . Nothing like actually using the machine. Demo units is one thing that impressed me with Kubota. John Deere and Newholland never offered.

If you are worried about scalping. Cut the grass a little longer. The Kubota 72" MMM is heavy duty. It will scalp a few times. Then ground will be low enough to not scalp any more.
Installing or removing the 72" MMM is best done using the FEL to raise front tires off the ground.

I have the 60" MMM on my B3030. I thought about getting the 72" but did not because of concerns regarding the drive over mounting. According to the manual there is quite a bit of prep needed before you can drive over it. I have since read that it can also be rolled out from under the tractor, also. I also stayed with the 60" because of my leaf vacuum from my previous tractor which had a 50" mower. I don't think it would work on a 72". I find the 60" very simple to R&R. Just turn the left side anti-scalp wheel 90 degrees and roll it out on the right side. as far as scalping, it has not been a problem with 60" and I have a few eneven places around the yard where scalping can be a problem. One thing that the 60" does that I did not like is leave tracks in the cut lawn from the two center rear wheels that it rides on. I modified mine so the rear of the mower hangs from chains from the frame. I like it a lot better that way. I removed the rear wheels completely and now it it is even easier to R&R. If I had a large relatively flat lawn to mow I would have the 72", though. With the 60" it takes just over an hour to mow 1.5 acres with trees and landscape beds. It really eats the grass and I usually mow at full HST pedal in Medium range.

I have the gauge wheels set to 4" on the 72" MMM on my B2910 and I run it with the wheels just off the ground and I have had no scalping issues. My land isn't hilly but it isn't what you would call flat either ..... I guess unlevel would describe it best.

That's a good idea about the chains. My wife complains about the rear deck tire tracks too. She says otherwise it does a better job than our JD 54" deck. She mows full HST in M range as well. We'll try the chain idea.

The lift mechanisim for the deck is tied into the 3PH, so yes, I guess I am. Due to the uneveness of our yard the gauge wheels do brush across the ground fairly often.

Yep, I understand. We just got our B2910 and haven't tried to do that yet. I read a post that said when they tried that it cut uneven. When I get home, I'll try it. I think that would work a lot better in sections of the yard where it's very rough. Thanks for the response. :)

Hmm. I do cut 3" high - I find that's healthier for the grass, and keeps the weeds down without herbicides - I'm all organic basically. Sounds like that might be less of a big deal scalp wise.

Anyone run the 72 on hills?
