<font color="green">Any lawyers here on TBN want to take on a class action lawsuit against John Deere regarding battery problems? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can't help but wonder what the ratio is between good and acid spewing bad batteries? Seems like a lot of comments here on TBN about battery problems but what percentage does that amount to since we mostly hear about problems. There wouldn't be a reason for people to post about good batteries anyway so that will skew the impression one receives regarding John Deere batteries.

I still can't believe the plastic battery holddown clamp on my 2210 was not made from acid proof plastic. What's up with that? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just kidding in regards to my lawyers comment. On a serious note Optima should make a payment to the operator of this discussion board for all the battery sales these posts generate!

Yep, just put one in yesterday afternoon!!

I had look over this thread earlier this week and found it interesting. Must have been a premonition or something. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Went out to start the tractor yesterday morning and had a visit from Mr. Click, the dead battery. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Well, the tractor is three and a half years old. And as the wife pointed out, it's better now than in the middle of a snowstorm with no way to get out of the driveway!!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

So, I did a little Internet research and called a few battery dealers in our area. Most wanted list price. Sears had them listed on the net for $139 and Advanced Auto had them for $118. I called Sears last and they quoted list - $159!! So, I mentioned that the Web price was $139 and he said he's match it. Additionally, Sears has a policy to match any price as long as you can show them the quote + 10% less. So, I got the battery for $113 including tax. It pays to shop around.

The installation went fairly smooth. The posts are on the front of the battery instead of the rear of the OEM battery. Yeah, lot's of acid goo that was quickly cleaned up with good ol' baking soda and water. The only issue was that you need to move the battery as close to the raditator as possible so that the positive post clears the headlight bezel. Other than that - no problem.

Oh yes, the battery top is yellow to match the JD yellow - nice touch!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Terry,

I think my total cost, inluding shipping, was about what you paid when I bought my D51 at Remy Battery. You made out just fine at retail. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The D51 (not D51R) matched my battery space and terminal connections perfectly on my 4110.

Interesting, I had the same problem with my 4600, I purchased another battery from JD dealer before reading these posts.
