Had a BX 24, now have an L2501
On my BX24, where the 4 wheel drive, Hi/low, and 3pt lift lever is located, there's an empty slot for another lever. What's that empty slot for? Is there an option available that I'm unaware of? Thanks.

There is a rear remote hydraulic valve kit available from Kubota. The control levers come out of that slot. Unfortunately, it will not work with the BX24 or BX25 as tha backhoe hydraulics interfere.

That empty slot on my BX2200 was for a remote linked mechanical cruise control, which I did have installed several years later. You already have cruise control, I think, near your throttle.

Sometimes an empty slot can be utilized in more than one way, but once you dedicate it to one function, that's the only one it will perform.

Bxpanded has it right. Also I heard it wont work with 2 digit BX's because there is no place to add the valve that the lever is attached to due to fact the subframe for BH takes up that available area under fender. I thought about adding the rear remote there, but i'd hate to get the valve dirty.

I am not sure if its because the BH taking up the available space but instead using up the hyd. ports for the BH.

Thanks for the info guys. Reason I ask is over the summer I'd like to start making a snow blower for my bx, and I'm looking at my options at on whether I want to make it run up front, or rear. Since I can't use that slot for what it's there for, I may use it for something else. I don't know yet, but the plans are being drawn in my head, and I can't make up my mind on some of the options I have. Such dilemmas:D. Thanks

Its not the BH itself taking the space. When I was researching on adding on a valve for my BX24, before messicks had thier pictures taken off line, I checked the 2350 and BX24- There is a part kit and it shows the vavle location is MOUNTED on top of the frame under fender. I looked at my BX24 and there is NO space to add that kit. No wonder it won't fit.

I wanted to fill that hole in the fender in the worst way, and also did the research...BH subframe is in the way, preventing mounting the valve assy. There's also an issue with the pre-bent hard lines and QC bracket not fitting the folding ROPS. I can solve the ROPS problem with flexible lines...but haven't overcome the subframe interference issue...:(

Looks like a test fitting of valve assy to see if subframe can be (safely) modified is in order...so many projects, so little time...

If the goal is rear remotes, I would just add a valve mounted to say the rops and use the quick disconnects for the backhoe. For filling the slot. maybe just get a piece of alum. and put switches on it? (worklights, garage door opener heheh)

Just2quicz28 Thats one of the best ideas I'vE heard of for that orphan slot

You're right, of course. That's my "B" plan. But...it's the challenge...

As I indicated earlier, I put the cruise control kit for the BX2200 in that slot. I was under the impression that the subframe for my Woods BH6000 would prevent utilizing the slot, but the dealer put both on at the same time-no interference.

Slot was also for BX7326 Rear Hydraulic Kit for BX1850 and 2350 models. Some of us with BX24+ TLBs were hopeful it could work for us...but alas, Kubota's subframe interferes...:(

That slot is for the optional HST control lever. It allows you to control forward & reverse with your right hand (as though you were using the foot pedals).

Benefits are;

Can move the tractor standing next to it - watch your toes . . .

Much better control over the dreaded BX24 reverse "Slam".

Can move forward or backward while sitting with the seat in backhoe position -the red button in the pics overides the seat safety switch - great for trenching, or simply repositioning.

I rarely use the reverse pedal now as it is much easier to grab the lever, than step back on the reverse pedal.

Thats a great idea. I would love to see some pictures of the lever portion of it.

Dave, Do you have the kit number for that. What dealer did ytou order that from?? That would be great when trenching.

Keyman - you live about 10 miles from my house, your welcome to stop by & see how it was done - it was actually another Monster Garage project & probably a 20 + beer pimp. . . . the linkage took some time to figure out. I'll try to dig up some pics later but am off to work now.

In the mean time here's another rarely seen option - a left foot brake pedal.

I found the stock setup pretty high and you must release the hst pedal to use it.
Hitting the new left pedal while slowing in reverse also eliminates that dreaded BX24 reverse slam.

ACHIN..

I remember your June '08 post, but somehow overlooked the lever mod. I was focusing on the brake pedal mod as a solution for "neck snap." Except for the liability issue, these would make great aftermarket "kits." Again...great work...

ACHINBAC I would love to see it sometime. Need to get that sucker marketed, Bet you could sell a ton of them

BotaB,

While both mods do mitigate the dreaded, publicly (& privately) embarassing BX24 reverse "Neck Snap" that many deny exists, though, those that knows knows, I still have on the shelf a cylinder ordered from Messicks (stock BX damper) for a future project to buffer the tail end of the reverse return travel - may not get to it for a while, but if it flys I will post some pics.

Time moves on though, and our snapped necks may simply become a faded memory as many upgrade to newer models.

Me, I'm married to the machine and TDDUP. . . . .
