Lowes is new to us. We have always had HD's around and every now and then a Lowes goes in. One advantage is the Lowes stores always are newer.

Here at Lowe's you have to, if you're lucky, find a cart that will carry what you need. Then fight your way through all the other customers carts to the lumber you need. Then sort through it to find some decent enough for you project.
After that fight your way back to the checkout then out to load it yourself.

All the lumber is stored indoors but is kept soaking wet. This is so it won't warp and twist until you get home.

Not sure about HD, but the 10% lowest price discount guaranty does work. For big projects I figure what I need then call the local competitors for their prices. Go to lowes then ask for them to compare against what I have. This has saved me hundreds of dollars.

Wish there was an HD here to compete against them though. Would bring their prices down always then!

I have noticed an overall change in HD since top management change a few years ago - selection of products is not what it was, brands are constantly changing, customer service, if you can find someone, also has declined.

Change starts at the top and flows downhill!

I currently prefer to go to Lowes - but that has not always been the case either.

Why is it when you don't need help, there will be someone come by every few minutes asking if you need anything. Then when you do need help, you can't find anyone? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif At any store, not just the big box stores. Even at THE hardware store of the N Dallas area, Elliott's.

Regarding locating someone to help you, Next time you go, have your cell phone handy and their phone number and call them while you are inside the store. Ask for the manager - you will get results, if you don't have to hold too long /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Purchased some carpet for our house we are trying to sell from HD. Told it would be here in two weeks and then installed. Like mentioned before they wrote a date like 5/24 (this was mid March). I questioned the date, and was told they just put this in the field, it will be here in two weeks. Two weeks go by, no call, nothing. I call and they tell me it's back ordered, won't be here for another 2-3 weeks. Wasn't someone going to call and tell me this??? They said there was a note to call and sorry. Obviously they knew when I ordered it that it was on back order, why not tell me? I could've picked something else...Wife goes in to borrow the sample pad so we can show prospective buyers what we purchased, this was charged a $5 deposit. A week latter HD calls and ask when we will bring the sample back as they can't sell this style without the sample...What?? You will get it back when I get my carpet...Still haven't received a call about the carpet being in, I'm sure it's going to be another 2 weeks at least, very disappointed... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Let me share a horror story about HD here in Florida.

About 2 years ago, a woman hired HD to repair her hurricane damaged roof. HD scheduled everything. Contractor shows up puts new shingles on the roof. Contractor leaves for lunch and the house burns down since one of the workers left a blow torch running on the roof. Woman goes to make claim, and finds out contractor was not insured! Homeowners insurance won't cover negligence. Local media does a story, and HD P.R. person says HD will pay for it all. 6 months later and the legal eagles at HD decide not to pay! They tell the woman to sue the contractor. She hired HD not the contractor.

Anyway, buyer beware! If you get HD to do work for you, make sure the contractor is licensed and insured since HD does not check.

Ever since my truck was broken into, I almost never shop at HD anymore. I asked the HD manager if I could use a phone to make a police report and I was told that HD policy does not allow personal calls!

My truck was parked in the first space across from the main entrance on a Sunday afternoon. The passenger window was smashed and my sawzall blades taken.

I now buy my supplies from a local family owned hardware store where the managers and clerks greet me by name. I get 10% off, which makes the prices about the same. On ocasion, they have asked me where do they need to be on price to get the sale on large orders.

( I DIDN'T know they'd expect me to pay for the timbers, THEN load all of 'em by myself, THEN go to CONTRACTORS desk to pay for the 5 lb. box of nails I needed too, for yet another 20 minutes in line. )

Not sure why you didn't put the 5 lb. box of nails into your cart, before going to pay for the timbers. You could have done it all right there. Those orange metal flats and plywood holders sitting outside the store are for you to load your items onto so you can push them out to your car or truck.
