ordered me a new dodge eco diesel today

Thanks Fordman - I don't put a ton of miles on it so it maybe a while before I hit 40K. I have oversize tires on it so that always throws things off a bit when calculating the mileage but it seems to get 13-14ish around town. My Tundra got 12 in the same area without oversize tires so I guess I can't complain. I doubt I will ever hit that point where a diesel is cheaper or I even break even for that matter but I really like the truck and it is fun to drive so I can't complain. Let me tell you it pulls the Bass boat darn well

My next truck will have as few options as possible, that Im sure of. I dont need powered nut warmers or power seats and DVD player for that matter. My current ford has all that crap. Cost me $55k. Never again. I dont care one bit about ford, gm or toyota's profit margin, of course they want to sell a rig with every conceivable option. They bring those high-buck rigs in, then they put a $10k off sticker on that same truck after it sits for a few months on the lot to try and sell it:rolleyes: How smart and "knowing your market" is that??

I dont necessarily agree that 99% of people wouldnt buy it. A lot of guys on here are the same as me. I want a bare bones work truck, not a mall cruiser. They sell them in other markets, why not here??? The auto companies like to say that people wouldnt buy it, but thats easy for them to say, since they dont offer it in the first place. Its in their best interest to pretend there is no market! Id be all over an Aussie Land Cruiser with a Ute Tray on back, that would be about the only truck that Id be interested in new, although the stripped special order stripped Canyon that is being built for government would at least get me to look at it assuming it gets offered to the public.

Other markets are 3rd world countries. Then again the US is rapidly headed that way.

If stripped vehicles sold, why are they the last ones off the lot and worth much less when traded?
You are your buddies are a less than 1% portion of the market that manufactures don't care about.
Personally I like cruise, air, power seats, power locks, power windows and a remote key fob. I'll pay to get it too. One vehicle had a DVD player for the back seat to reduce the fighting during trips.
I have to wonder why some folk are so proud of me so smart and physically brawny to " do without". The same type that want to save $250 and have a Ford N series instead of a Ford with live pto and live hydraulics.
Of course there is a stripped down vehicle for government tender. The lowest price wins.

You must be forgetting that I have one of the big3s luxo barges complete with rear DVD and key fobs. Im speaking from experience. All those options dont gain you a better truck, all they do is pad Ford (or whoever) bottom line. Its not worth very much if anything more on trade in, certainly not what the options cost me up front.

As to plain jane trucks being 3rd world, all I have to say is:

Australia is in the 3rd world?

What about Europe? 3rd world too?

Frankly Id love to be able to go to a Toyota dealer and pick up a so-called 3rd world "Tacoma", complete with cloth seats, crank windows, manual trans and a diesel. It would be a mate for the one I already have!

About the only place you see these full load ego machines is in the US.

The US is not the only market in the world.
I was in Haiti last year and the newer vehicles were not stripped down ecno boxes.
Manufactures will sell what ever the market will purchase. Just because a econo box with a diesel, four tires and a steering can be purchased in Australia. The econo box is a very limited portion of that manufactures Aussie market.
