Yep, buyer beware is the real theme. But, no matter where I shop, local or otherwise, the lack of customer service and niceties to the customer seem to be getting worse daily. Bad habit of mine, I expect to get what I paid for, in an unbroken condition when it's promised without any BS excuses why its not. IMO, there are too many companies trying to earn your business to throw my money at ones that could care less about their customer base.

I've had no problems ordering over the net, but this thread raises a question: Does paying through Paypal with a credit card affect your recourse through the credit card company if there is a problem with the order?

Ordered a pontoon boat cover over the internet, they said it would fit but it ended up being too short. They refunded the money for the cover plus all the shipping both ways.

Ordered 2 fishing reals from Bass Pro Shops. One was defective...they sent me a replacement real plus a check for $5.00 for the shipping.

The only places I don't order from is the ones without a phone number.

As we understand it you always have recourse with your regular credit card company when using PayPal. If you would like to verify this information PayPal may be reached at 1-888-215-5506 this is a real person that will answer not voice mail.

I buy boatloads of stuff over the net, and I've had very few problems. The only one I can remember is when I ordered a big bowie knife and the dealer shipped me 2 accidentally.

Legally, I could have just kept the second one, but I agreed to send it back if he'd send me a prepaid shipping label which he did. I dropped it off at a Staples about 1 mile from home and that was the end of it.

I buy from companies both well-known and unknown, I buy computer parts, cameras, CDs, DVDs, ammo, tools you name it.

I don't know where I'd find the time if it weren't for the net /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks, PineRidge. I'll keep that number handy. It probably doesn't make much difference. PayPal probably doesn't want to have a bunch of dissatisfied customers, so they will most likely take care of problems the way they did yours.

One of my brothers ordered an item from Bass Pro and they shipped two of them, separately, but also charged his credit card each time. Since he was coming up to visit me a week or so after receiving the second one and there's a Bass Pro shop here close, he decided to return the spare item to the store and get them to credit his card. Nope, they don't do that; told him he had to ship it back to return it and get the credit. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif He was not happy with Bass Pro. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My personal experience with Internet purchases has usually been good, although twice it took long enough for something to come that I cancelled the order, but then they later shipped the item anyway via UPS and I just refused to accept them when they arrived.

Living out in the sticks in East Texas I don't have easy access to a lot of items like computer software so I order over the Internet anywhere from 2 to 8 times a month. So far no major problems.

I prefer to use a credit card so I have someone on my side if something does go wrong.

One note of warning with protesting a credit card charge: Pay the entire credit card bill but go ahead and file the protest. I pay the full balance on my credit card every month. I once protested a charge and deducted that amount from the bill since they told me the charge would be put on hold until it was settled. The next month I was charged interest just as if I had only paid the minimum on the credit card. Expensive lesson.

Never, ever send cash, money order, or check for an Internet order.

Can you ship ammo these days? Can you recommend a place to buy cheap .45 ACP? The cheapest place (so far) I've found is at big gun shows, but I don't always have the time or inclination to go 60 miles + to Dallas for a gun show.

Thanks,
Pete

An outfit by the name cheaper than dirt used to be cheap. If it still is I dont know but like all those types of purchases its the weight and the special permits that are required thats adds up fast. Thats why I learned to make my own ammo....thats even cheaper and I can do about 200rnds an hour. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
