Orec RM98
Hello,
I am looking into buy an Orec ride on brush mower (RM98 2wd brush rover). It has one big main blade with 2 flail blades hinged at the end. I assume this thing could cut grass as well as brush? I have a lot of both and would rather buy one affordable machine that can do both.

Thanks!

I totally understand the desire to have one machine that will do it all, and get it for an afordable price. The thought of such a machine having what the website calls a "go-kart" feel gives me an unsettled feeling. I suspect the woody plants it would take care of would not be much more than 1/2 in in diameter. Just my thoughts/suspicions/concerns.

My thoughts are the person was posting an ad.
No I actually want to buy one, I have rented one before and it did a great job for brush in the fall, but I never gave it a try on the lawn because the ground was a little soft and wet and it has fairly aggressive V tread. I tried to rent it again this summer but they stopped carrying it so I was hoping someone had experience with it.

I’m guessing the lack of responses is because nobody knows anything about them. I see they make a 4 wheel drive model also.

I remember seeing the website before and i think it's true that hardly anyone knows they exist or have used one.

Last time they came up i pointed out that as a brush cutter, having a mid mounted deck on a small machines limits you to only the things you can push/drive over, so it is probably pretty unlikely to get torn up by an 'unskilled' operator and maybe makes sense that way for rental purposes.

You can certainly change the tires out for something less aggressive if you were concerned about turf damage, but if you were still trying to use it in rougher terrain it might not be a good compromise. A 4wd can trade away more tire traction than a 2wd. On a 2wd i would generally never 'downgrade' traction.

I have not used a flail mower but i here they do a pretty good job on grass.
