OSB for roof and siding?

I needed some solid sides to go inside of the steel framing up a trailer I had. We had some old OSB and used that. I've never put a coat of paint as it was supposed to be temporary and it has been on the trailer for 4 years. The edges are starting to get frayed a little but the rest of it is still in good shape. The edges wouldn't have been in such bad shape if I hadn't set them on the ground when I didn't need them.

I bought a barn style shed package from 84 lumber and the sheating looked like T-111 on the outside and was sealed with some type of brownish primer, but on the other side it was OSB type material. I still have yet to paint the Outside because the brownish primer is really close to matching the vinyl on the house. :D That sheating twisted like crazy and was a real pain putting on. Trying to drive nails through it was awful.

I hate to say that I am in the T111 group. for 8' by 8', the additional cost should be minimal. When I was buidling my 24'x30' I was think about using composite decking. For the size it would have run me an extra $4000. Needless to say there is wood there. For your size project, I can't imagine it would run that much extra.

I went with cedar --- didn't want to have to repaint ... just spray with preservative from now on --- for a small shed -mine's 10x12 - the cost is not a big factor. Go with something that will look good and last. The little bit that you'll save by skrimping will be a regret later.

things that are acceptable in WV arent in many other places.(j/k)

i once helped a guy build his log house and on his roof he used these insulating panels that were an OSB/foam sandwich. we had to nail them on with these long ring-shanked nails. we must have bent several hundred of them just trying to get them started into the osb.

The people that make hardi backer for going under ceramic tiles also make a 4x8 sideing that resembles T11 as far as the decorative cuts go. it is about 22.59 a sheet here. It is called Hardi Panels and is warrantied for 50 years. That is what i am going to put on my new garage to match the T11 sideing on the rest of the house.

Thank you all for the advice. At HomeDepot 7/16" OSB was $6 and 15/32" plywood was $10. I needed 11 sheets to cover 8'x8' pump house. Price was $66 vs. $110. I chose plywood, hoping it would save $44's worth of trouble down the road. I put a coat of latex paint on the exterior. Thanks again.
