Milkman...... you sure know how to ruin a guys day. You have just convinced me in one simple picture that I don't want the surgery that the doctor has said that I should have to fix my shoulder. Thanks for the picture. I now know that I can continue to live with the pain because the pain I know is a lot better than the pain that I can see that you went through. Hope that you feel better and I feel better a lot already. You are right about one thing. Growing old isn't like it once was. In the old days, you got old and died, now you stay alive and just come apart at the seams a little bit at a time and then you die at a much older age and a lot poorer..... Milkman, your picture has made me not want the surgery either as I have a necroses on the hemeral head with a flat spot and the only cure is replacement. I think I will live with the pain when I do to much as I am only 28. Makes me scared to grow old.

I had rotator cuff surgery about a year and half ago on my left shoulder. I fell backwards and went to catch myself and stiff armed a torn cuff. I recommend doing what your physical therapist suggest. Look at what your insurance will pay for therapy, mine had a cap but was waved with some doctor intervention. I'm still not 100% but I can get a good night sleep and it don't bother me doing everyday activities. Hang in there.

Hey, get the replacement. I have a joint replacement due to a sports injury that was done 20 some years ago. Have had no problems at all and it wasn't real painfull at the time either.

That pic was the 17th, the day after surgery, the first three days after was rough with a lot of swelling, there's still some pain but it not as bad as before, i'll ammend that, now it's different than it was before. The Doc said, usually his incision is 2" across the shoulder, front to back, but he needed more room to do all the work at one time. He said that is the longest incision he's ever had to do.Would I do it again, yes, because now, with the way it's improved, i think it is going to get a lot better. Therapy started the day after surgery, and it's getting easier every day.
I know the pic looks scary but that is temporary, weigh that again 20 or 25 more years of hurt, and it don't look quite so bad.

OUCH is right!! I've been putting that off for my left shoulder. I've had to learn to sleep in different positions that I was accustomed to, and it only hurts enough to keep me from sleeping one or two nights a week. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I know that sooner or later . . . /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've wondered just how that affects other people. I usually have no problem using my left hand and arm so long as whatever work I'm doing is in front of me, but sure can't reach behind anymore or lift anything out to the side.

I would guess they're all different, but mine got to where i couldn't move it much in any direction and it hurt all the time, and about every 20 to 30 minutes it would get real bad and i'd have to change positions with it. It kept me and the wife awake a lot everynight. about two years ago my doctor had told me it was arthritis in my shoulder and gave me Celebrex. that stuff is hard on stomach, kidneys, and liver, had to take a pill for stomach while i was taking that stuff. got liver spots on both arms while i was taking it, I knew i had to do something and it looked like cortozone shots was next so i tried a chiropractor instead. He told me there was no arthritis in my shoulder, it was out of the socket, he put it back in and immediatly the pain stopped, but after a couple of hours it was back out again. stopped taking the celebrex and there was no difference in the pain and the liver spots went away after about three weeks. went to the orthopedic doc, that's when i found out i had a rotator cuff tear and some other stuff pulled loose. glad it's fixed though, been off since the last week in Jan. and three more months to recuperate. Sure hope yours gets better. It's beginning to sound like we're all falling apart.

Milkman, yours sounds much worse than my problem I was taken a ton of IB profen for pain and some celebrex. The ortho doc said quit the physical jobs or get a new shoulder. Got me a desk job and do not need to much for pain anymore just when I over do it on my property projects. Good luck on your recovery.
