Wonder where they got 21 F-15's from. I didn't think VA had that many.

Funny how respectfull the DC crowds can be. Too bad it cannot be all the time.

I just saw the changing of the guard on cable. Man that is a solemn ceremony. Those people present will remember that.

The Great Communicator's Farewell Speech........................

My fellow Americans,

I have recently been told that I am one of the millions of Americans who will be afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.

Upon learning this news, Nancy and I had to decide whether as private citizens we would keep this a private matter or whether we would make this news known in a public way. In the past, Nancy suffered from breast cancer and I had my cancer surgeries. We found through our open disclosures we were able to raise public awareness. We were happy that as a result, many more people underwent testing. They were treated in early stages and able to return to normal, healthy lives.

So now we feel it is important to share it with you. In opening our hearts, we hope this might promote greater awareness of this condition. Perhaps it will encourage a clearer understanding of the individuals and families who are affected by it.

At the moment I feel just fine. I intend to live the remainder of the years God gives me on this Earth doing the things I have always done. I will continue to share life's journey with my beloved Nancy and my family. I plan to enjoy the great outdoors and stay in touch with my friends and supporters.

Unfortunately, as Alzheimer's disease progresses, the family often bears a heavy burden. I only wish there was some way I could spare Nancy from this painful experience. When the time comes, I am confident that with your help she will face it with faith and courage.

In closing, let me thank you, the American people, for giving me the great honor of allowing me to serve as your president. When the Lord calls me home, whenever that day may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and eternal optimism for its future.

I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead.

Thank you, my friends. May God always bless you.

Sincerely,

Ronald Reagan

Reagan Daughter Says He Died with Love in Eyes
By Ben Berkowitz and Jill Serjeant

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -......................................................

Reagan's daughter, actress-writer Patti Davis, gave details from her father's death bed, where she gathered on Saturday afternoon with her brother, Ron, and Nancy Reagan.

In an article to be published on Thursday in People Magazine, Davis, once the most rebellious of the four Reagan offspring, said, "At the last moment, when his breathing told us this was it, he opened his eyes and looked straight at my mother."

"Eyes that hadn't opened for days did, and they weren't chalky or vague. They were clear and blue and full of love. If a death can be lovely, his was."

Davis embraced and comforted her mother on Monday as the late president's coffin was placed in repose. In her article in People, for which the magazine said she was not paid, Davis added that Reagan's death taught her "that there is nothing stronger than love between two people, two souls."

I just got done watching fox and decided to start a string on rural living but did not know of this one!!!!!!!
I was young when Reagan was in office but after seeing the parting thoughts of his children....It made me want to try to be a better man everyday....

I personally think that the greatness of a man is shown the most by what he imparts to his children!!!!
By what they and others said about him....

RONALD REAGAN TRULY WAS A MAN TO REMEMBER....AND TO MODEL ONESELF AFTER!!!!
MY HAT IS OFF TO HIM!!!...........amen

i will respectfully delete my string as i think all of our thoughts should be as one family, one group, and one heart..mind and soul on this one........

hillslider:

<font color="blue">One of his better known quotes..." The best thing for the inside of a man is the outside of a horse" </font>

Don't know what the origins of that are, but it was used in the movie Marnie 40 years ago.

I believe that was Will Rogers that coined that phrase. I think I will substitiute my dog, but the meaning is none the less so understandable.

I too would like to give my thanks to President Reagan. For those of us in California, he a great asset to have as a governor as well. I used to have the plaque where he would sit at the horse races at the race track in Sacramento (Cal Expo), the plaque simply had his name on it.
