Our AC stopped working....and then the fun begins

Yep, about ten days the humdity and heat are high enough I finally turn it on. Usually we use the good old fans.

Not sure if you are being serious or not with the speech. So I'll hold back, but you do realize the server hosting this website is in an air conditioned room, right?

What Coby meant is cavemen back in the day didn’t have access to fans so you are blessed. :D

Swapping it out for new and sticking it in the basement INMHO was the right move. I had the similar concerns last Winter. After having a trouble call on AC each year and then a difficult repair on the heating end on a 10 YO unit, I bit then bullet and swapped everything out and slept better ever since that. New with a long warranty is nice most of the time.

No argument or preaching here, just non-judgmental musing.
I'm sitting in an air-conditioned room right now!

**Warning: About to go on a tangent:**
Naw, I was just remembering those philosophical questions: "What defines 'life'?" or "When is something alive? And somebody would always answer: "Well, does it breathe? Does it eat? Does it have a way to reproduce and multiply, etc...? If yes, than it's alive "

And then somebody else would always say: "Well what about fire, it does all that, but is it "alive"?

That got me thinking. (uh-oh!): Don't air conditioners create (a demand for)....more air conditioners. A complicated reproduction technique for sure, ...but if something has a way to reproduce....= Life!!

Ok, that is all. Hopefully my meds kick in soon!! :D

You're on to something there. could be the foundation of AI taking over!

Gotta go, I am going to go stock up on some freeze dried food just on case.

In all seriousness, I work from home and have my office in the basement. So during the summer time my employer gets a huge amount of work out of me because I want to stay in the basement from an up to sun down.

My retired wife on the other hand is not impressed with 80% humidity and >90°.

I guess I could use air conditioning here - a lot do. I just enjoy turning on two big 'ol fans - on opposite ends of the house and creating a mini-tornado thru the house.

Its 95F-outside, 74F-inside, right now - Friday morning around 4:30AM it will be 46F. I turn the fans on around 8:30 at night and off around 7:30 am. Cools the house down to 68F.

Besides with that much wind blowing thru the house - it keeps the dust well distributed.

There are alternative refrigerants to replace R12 or 22, such as R290,
An older R12 system got a dose of it this spring and that cab is staying cooler then it has in many years.
Yes, R290 is also called propane.
