I saw the notification or your post in my email box this morning and I recognized it right away. Has been a long time since you last post and my last post.

Yeah it's been a long while , and I could write a whole book on what's been going on. To make a long story short , my wife's been pretty ill and we have been dealing with medical issues and that's just one of the major things that's been going on.

I am doing my hay now as well , in fact my hay guy is baling our hay as I write, then it's on to the fun part , Hand stacking it in the barn ,,, LOL. It never ends on the farm here, always busy.

I have a little filly foal on the ground now who's mother died 2 days after she was born unfortunately and it was totally unexpected. She was a healthy mare but she got torn inside when she gave birth and we never knew anything was wrong. She was bleeding internally and we never saw any problems and then the next thing I knew she was down and bleeding out the rear.

The vet came out and said he couldn't tell the problem and needed me to take her to his clinic. I got her there but it was too late. She died in the trailer on the way. Just too darn bad.

Here's a couple of pics of her and the foal just hours before she died:

But the filly's doing great , I am feeding her milk re placer and she's thriving and healthy as the rest of the foals. Fortunately she got the colostrum from her mom before she died, otherwise we may have lost the foal too. She's a really nice little filly.

The other good news is we have sold all but two of our foals already so things are looking good this year for horse sales.

Good to hear from you again Nick and I'll be checking in from time to time here again , I was missing the site and had to come back and see what's happening with the good people here. Good luck with your hay season and any other chores you're working at currently.

I'll be back.

I hope everyone's having a great summer and looking forward to being here again.

Later.

About the Tack Room Guys ,

To finish this room up on the inside I first swept it out really good to avoid getting too much dust floating around in there. I then brought in my ladder and 5 gallons of typical eggshell white interior latex paint to get the painting started.I taped off the ceiling light with 2" masking tape to keep the paint of the light.

Then I painted around the light with a brush with 2 coats about 12" around it so I could roll the rest of the ceiling without accidentally painting the light ,,, LOL.

From there I proceeded to get to rolling the ceiling and then the sides after , then I gave it all the second and final coat.

The next day was flooring day. The first thing I did in order to get the flooring down properly was to sweep the floor once again and then I brought a Shop Vac in there and vacuumed it out thoroughly to get all small debris so I could lay the floor down smoothly.

After vacuuming I laid the Armstrong vinyl flooring out in two pieces and lined the seam up perfectly and then carefully cut all the edges out along the walls. I chose to lay it using the floating method but I did tape the seem down and used the adhesive glue all the way down the seam. The reason I used the floating method was so that if I ever need to replace the flooring I can do so easily. It laid out really nicely without any sagging , needless to say I was quite pleased with it.

After getting the beautiful floor down it was time for getting all the trim boards , baseboards and shelves put up. I went to Home Depot and picked up some two by two's. I wanted the ones that were imperfect that had a bit of the wain and bark on the edges so I could give the trim in the tack room a bit more of the old barn wood look. I was able to buy those cheaper too because of the imperfections.

I then stopped by my neighbor who has a portable sawmill setup and bought rough cut boards from him to do the wooden strips and shelves that you see on the walls in the pics above. Then I cut my boards and put em' all up using wood screws by hand to insure they were fastened very tight to the walls.

The baseboards were made with the same two by twos I used for the wall corner trims and work really well to hold the floating vinyl floor down nicely as well.

I then mounted all the electrical socket covers on all the walls and hooked up the phone jack to the phone line and then the room was finished.

After I was finished painting and building I put together a nice desk for my wife and then moved all the cabinets and decor in there. And then I was done. This tack room's not only a tack room , it serves as our office for doing business with our buyers and it also has a fridge and coffee pot in there so if we get thirsty out there in the barn we have our drinks right there.

I'm happy with it and the best thing about it is , my wife loves it.

This barn has been very enjoyable working on and it's really nice to have a great working barn. I'm glad it's done though, I thought I was never going to get that tack room done. I do have one last thing to add to it and that's a door for the tack room. The one we have on it is an old door we used temporarily. I have a brand new one for it and will be putting it up soon.

Other than that we're done.

Very nice job on the tack room, I like how it is neatly organized and set up to double as a tack room and office. I somehow missed this thread a few years ago, I'm going to have to go back and start at the beginning. Sorry to hear about your wife's illness, thoughts and prayers heading your way.
