When are all the little spiders gonna hatch? Wasn't that the story of the lady with the bump on her face?

The yellow jackets have been more agressive lately apparently... got stung again last night, this time in a more annoying location, on the inside of my right bicep... I went YEARS without being stung now it's two within the same month...

Yellow jackets are the worst. Only ones I encounter that sting you for just being somewhat near their underground nests.
They also freeload on my apples and pears while they are still on the trees.
At least with paper wasps and bald faced hornets, they do not attack you unless you either touch them their nest or get within a foot or so of their nest.
The only good yellow jacket is a dead yellow jacket.

Contact your Dr to see if you need an Epi pen. Reactions can get worse the more you are stung and as you age.
I'm a 21 year EMT/ff. Stuck several people with epi for allergic reaction.

Its more contemplated that your reactions simply changing with ones age. Its also a volume thing, that is if you get strung enough, you got into shock and die. We get stung every summer while working in the woods and commonly there no cell service, so we now carry benadryl and epi pens in our kits. We are not allergic to any stings, but if someone gets stung enough, you still die.

Yep, I am allergic in that I react the most to yellow jacket stings and swell up to heck but location dependent I just deal with it... The first time in a LONG time (15 or so years I think) I was stung by a yellow jacket it was right above the left eye, I was leaf blowing and apparently got to above their nest, several of them dive bombed me and one got me... Anywho, a trip to the hospital and $550 later I was basically told to keep an eye on it and take benedryl, and given a prescription for steroids. My wife is around most of the time I'm doing goofy things so I use some Sting Kill and Benedryl and it works out...

On a positive note, I found the nest that the bastage was protecting, I was 10' from it when I got stung, it was 10" diameter and under a half wine barrel by the front porch... the nest is dead and received around 2 cans of spray...

This has worked for us and you do it your own risk. I use to do a lot of custom bush hogging and was always stirring up hornets , yellow jackets and wasps.
As soon as I got stung, immediately get off the tractor (after getting away from the nests) I would find a small stick and stick it down in my gas tank and dab it with gasoline. ( I know someone is going to ask high test or regular) This has always minimize the sting and pain, and swelling.
Finally went to a diesel tractor and just always carried a very small bottle of gas. We keep a bottle handy out in the garage in case one of the grand kids get stung. Got stung by a hornet while riding my motorcycle right between the eyes, stopped and found a stick and stuck it in my gas tank and dabbed it on the spot. Pain went away right but left a knot in the middle of my head for over a month.

Those are just the critters that live in and on you that you DO notice!

Not sure if the redish brown wasps we have are the same as others have mentioned but those are the ones that usually get me. Often as not, when they have started nesting in one of my pipe gates. That's what happened a few weeks ago when I slammed a gate and they nailed me twice behind my left knee. Could be that I am getting more reactive to stings as I age because the stings burned for a week but did not swell.

When I get stung, all bets are off. I get out a can of wasp spray and have at it at the nests that I had observed but let go for the time.

I was just reading about an alternative to the Epi-Pen that just came on the market but it is still pricey but not nearly as much. If I recall, there was one on the market awhile back but they pulled it for some reason. This new one may be that same company?

Dauber's? I had mentioned a few years ago that a dauber of something got into my pressure washer wand. When I started the pump motor, the pressure instantly jammed against the tip. I shut it down and had to loosen a fitting to release the pressure. My wand stands vertical with the handle up in a pipe on the washer. I usually leave the tip in but hold it up and pull the handle to drain it. Now, I put a little rubber cap over the hose fitting.

I'm still recouping from a bug bite of some kind. Woke up Saturday morning and my elbow hurt. Didn't think anything of it. Figured I bumped it since I'm a mechanic.

Well that sucker swelled up good and I ended up with in infection. Thankfully the antibiotics kicked in today and started working. Yesterday when I got up, it felt like someone was whaking me in the elbow with a baseball bat.

It wasn't a spider bite, was it? Those are nasty and take forever to go away. I got one while camping, I had hung my shirt on a limb and didn't check before putting it again.

That's what I figured it was. Scouring my elbow as much as I could in the mirror, all I could see was a teenie tiny red dot. Bloody bite or knick turned into a nasty infection though. And painful!!! I've been accusing my wife of whooping me with a baseball bat while I'm sleeping :laughing: course she said "keep it up, and I'll make it a reality":eek:

Like many guys of my generation, I'm not big on running to a doctor for the least little thing. Being a Canuck, I never gave much thought to venomous insects.

The other side of 10 years ago, a friend of mine got bit by something while cleaning up his garage at home (in Canada). Stop for Nothing, Work 18 hours/day kind of guy, he didn't think much of it. The catch-up dinner we had a few months later came too close to never happening; he almost didn't make it.

I don't know the medical term for it, but when he described what he saw coming out of his arm when he finally came-to in the hospital, I said "Sounds like a fuel-rail". A gear-head too, he did laugh at that dinner....... but it doesn't get more real than having a metal beam with multiple ports on it sticking out of your body, because they are pumping that much stuff into you to keep you alive.

Strong guy, no known allergies.... taught me how easily any of us can be taken down. Any unusual reaction needs proper medical attention FAST.

Rgds, D.

Brown recluse spider?

Brown recluse spider?
No, it wasn't necrotic. Just a little dot. Medication I'm on makes me more susceptible to certain types of infections. So a bug bite, sting, nick or scratch could set something off. Being a mechanic makes this h#!l, cause I'm so used to pinches and bumps on my body I don't realize I did something till it swells really bad or there's blood
