Out of fuel

For those without gauges, like my B7100,it is worth knowing that you can have fuel in the tank, be stopped on a fairly steep quartering uphill with engine running, get off the tractor to hook a chain to a multiflora, and have the puppy run out of fuel even though it wasn't empty, just close to it. That was the cause of my second event. If it had been on flat ground, it wouldn't have happened. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That's the one thing i like about the tanks on the larger NH tractors that are up near the steering colum.. like the 5xxx-7xxx.. the tank slopes forward at the bottom for the petcock, so that if you have any fuel, it is by the tap... even on a hill, as long as you are facing up/down. Now if you are on a side hill.. make sure the tap ( right side ) is facing downhill!

Yeah, you have to be careful on the TNs. There are two fuel tanks. One up behind the seat and one under the operator deck. The top tank drains in to the lower tank and the sending unit is in the lower tank. Thus, until the lower tank starts draining, the guage always shows full.

Do you have any idea how much each tank holds? I am guessing they hold about 10 gallons in each based on overall capacity and how much I have to add to top the top tank off.

I have always been reluctant to actually test the accuracy of the guage /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't have any idea. I do know that as soon as the top tank is empty and the fuel guage starts to move, it doesn't take long for it to down to it's 1/2 tank mark. That's when I usually fill it up.

The manual states that the tanks hold 23.7 gals total.
