Have bought 3 new Kubotas and 1 used in the last 5 years including 1 from Barlows. Would not hesitate for a minute to buy another from them - local dealers were close enough on the other 2 new ones and they just didn't have anything similiar enough to the used one. Excellent service and delivery.

I have never purchased from Barlow's. John Thomas keeps buying all new arrivals before I get there. Joking of course. If looking for a new Kubota I would give Barlow's an opportunity to make a sale. I would not have any fear of not getting warranty repairs after the purchase.

Manufactures are the ones responsible for insure defects in products are repaired or replaced under the warranty period not dealers. Granted a friendly dealer will make the process more enjoyable.

"There are two types of written warranties: full and limited. A manufacturer offering a, "full warranty must grant it for a specific length of time, must make repairs at no charge in a reasonable length of time, and cannot require the customer to jump through any hoops in order to invoke the warranty. "

"Limited warranties, which must be labeled so in writing, limit the liability of the manufacturer. A limited warranty may offer to replace defective parts free while still levying high labor charges or require that the consumer ship the product to a manufacturer-approved service center. The distinctions between full and limited warranties and the obligations of manufacturers to honor them vary from state to state so it is up to the consumer to carefully read the literature and understand what is covered before the purchase. Fortunately for consumers, manufacturers are required to follow any implied warranties created by local laws."

As a long time member of TbN, and someone who has purchased 3 used Kubotas and sold two, I would not hesitate to buy another used one, if I felt it would better serve my needs. I have never had a service issue that I was uncomfortable in dealing with myself, and buy parts wherever they are cheapest. I will use my local dealers for stuff I need right now, or if their prices are close enough that it doesn't hurt. I am not a farmer or someone who depends on his machines for his living, however.

If you are running a business, then speed of service is more important than cost, which would be a write-off in any event. Looking forward to seeing photos of your new tractor!

Barlows has a golden rep based on the years of posts about them, and I have personal experience with Messicks, who run a good business as well. If a dealer doesn't seem to want your business, or is difficult to deal with and won't discuss concerns, then pass them by. It usually gets worse, not better.

"...If I were you I would stop back in at the first dealer, [AND] apologize....",

Strangest comment I have read on the internet today.

<snip> He happened to call me. I sat listening as he ran my trade down and how he was doing me a favor. Then he shot me his new better price that was $200 more. <snip>
The way I read that the first time it read like the price was $200 more than the first offer.

That would make me look for another dealer anyways.

For clarification was it $200 more than his first bottoom line price or $200 more than Messicks?

<snip>
Yesterday he called me, kinda with the attitude of "why I had not called back?" He said he talked to Kubota and they said really my trade was worth only $600 but he would stick with the $1500 (nice guy). Ha. Then he said Kubota had discounted some and gave me a number $200 more than I had two weeks before. I told him that and then said I am talking to Barlows too. For the same tractor they are $2500 less than you. He got mad and said, "So when you need service, you taking it there?" I said, "Your a Kubota dealer, If my Ram breaks I don't need to take it where I bought it". He said, "Well I probably should not say it but you would be waiting till all our actual customers got serviced first". I am thinking A-hole but keep my cool. I said "OK, what can you do about price?" He said nothing and that "Barlows will do bait and switch. The tractor they deliver won't be with AG tires and HST like I want"....

Is this guy all wet, just a jerk or what?
Actually after reading it for the fourth time I think he is a practioner of bait and switch. I wouldn't go to him for repairs even.

Newbury, yep his hard negotiations with Kubota (he really said that) came back with what he first said was a better price. When I heard it I was surprised it was $200 more than the first price he gave me.

I only approached him twice in all this, he is the one who called me that last time. I went in once for an initial discussion face to face and then a phone call asking him to deal. He agreed to give me $1500 for my 9n and gave me the same list price on the phone. I knew then we were done. Then about 2 weeks later he called me with the story and a $200 increased price.

I just bought an LS G3033H today. Met a great dealer and his first price was in the range of what I have seen posted here. I am happy and so is he I assume. Oh, the one great thing is he is about 25 miles from me.

Thanks fellas.

Bill

As a child I used to listen to Paul Harvey on the radio. He specialized in telling both sides of the story rather than just the obvious one side. And he used to end his commentaries with . . . "and now you've heard the rest of the story".

This thread reads quickly but the storyline was predictable.

You are entitled to your opinion. And as you so stated, it was not too popular.

Paul Harvey was an entertainer, and little more. And certainly not above introducing his own personal bias & opinion into his broadcasts.
But perhaps you never heard THAT side of the story.

The Paul Harvey I referred to was a newsman and commentator who had a massive audience. He received Presidential awards. The fact he included wit and creativity to his broadcasts didn't weaken his significance and quality of coverage. He also did an additional show a bit more light hearted . . Often during the war years.

As far as my opinions and their "popularity" . . I'd choose accuracy or honesty or fairness before "popularity" anytime. Anything I post on TBN I stand by.

Kind of surprised Capricious . . didn't see you post previously on either thread until now.
