Dont think i ever looked at a restaurant review to determine where to eat. New places is word of mouth..

When we are out of state, my wife really does live by trip advisor. Like movie reviews, I guess it can all be a matter of opinion, if you see 100 negative reviews vs 3 positive reviews, it can be a sign.

We went for a Shrimp burger this year out of state per a friends recommendation. If I would of driven by the place without knowing about it, you couldn't pay me to walk into the pace as there is no way I thought it would of been good. The reality is although the place looked like "crap" inside with limited seating, the shrimp burger was magnificent and I haven't had one yet to even compare it to. Real shrimp, grounded onto a burger gun. More than amazing.

That said, locally, heard about a local restaurant which we went to, and most likely won't ever go back again.

Yea, we went to a bbq place in AR that someone said was good, but it wasnt. But we did stop at another bbq place that doesnt look too great, but we like the food. We now stop there about every trip. I use number of cars in parking lot as an indicator also.

The only time I "go out to eat" is when I go in the hospital. Most are horrible but one locally has real good food, it is a 7th Day Adventist run place with great care and food which is vegetarian but always fresh and well prepared.

Yes... search for the place that looks like it's been there for 30 years with a worn out parking lot and lot's of trucks... :licking:

I'm retired State Corrections {Max Custody}.
Seen enough "Humanity" to last several lifetimes.
Live out on a dirt road with eveything I need to get by.
There are several of us old "hired guns" living out here
Gave away all my TVs 10 yrs ago. Nothing much worth watching anyway.
County Deputies all know who lives out here...Grin
I leave the property twice a week.
1) Church
2) Sam's Club & Groceries

Restraunts? I was a Chef for the Marriott Corp back when I wore a young man's clothes in the 70's
Don't have much use for restraunts of today. The don't measure up to what I can make right here.
...and they want how much money for it?
That road out there leads both ways...Pick one!

Maybe I do listen to social influencers - Tractor Mike and Hickock45?

Hickock45 has gotten me in the dog house a few times hahahaha.
I use internet for this stuff right here if it went down right now it would not upset me at all same goes with cell phones, they are nice but not really needed for everyday life for me.

Remember if we needed to get ahold of someone we either went and knocked on their door or else called them from a land line or pay phone if you had a dime or quarter on ya or maybe a shop owner would let you use their phone as long as it was not long distance. My how times have changed.

The only thing I worry about in these times is a EMP on us from another country and that is only because I have a pacemaker that works 80-87 percent of the time, at least that痴 what my reports show and I have a morphine pump in my lower back for chronic pain, I would be s.o.l if we had a emp attack.

"No land line, only sketchy cell phone service" . I have learned to uses a "work around" and I rather enjoy a quiet life. I do most of my communication via email. I have HughesNet for that. I DO have TV - I have Dish for that.

It's a long story but - the power company ABSOLUTELY refuses to allow any type of communication lines to be hung on their power poles. End of that story.

The lowest estimate for phone service - 1982 estimate - $25,000. I really doubt its got any cheaper with time.
That's interesting! Here the installation for phone service is $40 for a basic lifeline, period, doesn't matter what it takes to install it. In my case there were no available circuits on the existing line so they had to run a whole new trunk line including tunnelling under the state highway with all the permissions, approvals & inspections that required. Took about a month for the installation. That was about 5 years ago. We did not have cell service here either. Now there is a tower going up about 3 miles away, we'll have to wait and see if it will have a cell antenna on it.

Yesterday, for unimportant reasons, I had to go to a grocery store and pick up some prepackaged food for lunch today. One of the items I bought was a little container called "Balanced Breaks". It contains
Natural Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Sea- Salted Cashews & Cherry juiced infused Dried Cranberries.
Natural cheese? Sea salted cashews? Juice infused Cranberries? WTHeck is juice infused? and is regular salt no longer available? And it was $$$$.
Also yesterday I read a blurb about a "Social Influencer" What exactly is a social influencer?

I am becoming more out of touch every day.

Don't feel bad, your not the only one out of touch, quite a few of us on the site are out of touch. I am proud of the fact I'm out of touch and I retired for a fortune 100 tech company last year.

I will tell you what I'm concerned about. I bent up the Shanks on my box blade really bad yesterday. I kept hitting stumps under the ground. Box blade shanks are not cheap.

I ordered new ones, I sure hope they are not juice infused!!!

Jim.

I noticed a long time ago, as our High-Tech "Communications" got better (?), it got harder to actually get a hold of somebody.

It would be one thing if people were only ducking my calls .......

I used to get to Texas on business. Reminds me of Alberta; both have a Just Get it Done attitude .
