What model over the TC45 would be good. Need 4wd , hydro or equivalent tranny, loader , turf tires want to pull 15-17 ft batwing finish mower. HVAC cab would be great....thanks for any help.

If you are stepping up significantly in HP and size beyond a CUT and into the AG utility size tractor, hydro transmissions are very rare. Power reverser geared transmissions are the norm. Adding power shifting between gears is a popular option.

With that size mower, depending on what you're cutting, you probably want 50 hp or better turning the PTO. Like dirtball said, that's utility tractor size, not compact. If you don't need 4wd, look into used Ag equipment. You might find 70 to 90 hp stuff is cheaper than the sub 50 hp size, especially if you go used.

15-17' batwing.. and ac.. I'd deffinately look into utility or used ag tractor. I'd try to get over 50hp.. otherwise it is going to be an uphill climb if you clip more than a few dasies.. weight is also a concern with large mowers.. etc. I know you plan on pulling a finish mower.. not a rough cutter.. but still.. you need some hp...

I looked at the specs for a number of 15 foot bat wings. The min required hp was 60. As far as I'm concerned running amower with minimum power is asking for trouble. I would sya you are looking at a TN75 or higher.

I think that's good advice. For kicks.. I've powere up my 15' rough cut batwing with my ford 5000, and it has 67 pto hp.. but it just doesn't feel the same as my 7610s powering the 15'.. deffinate power difference with that extra 23+ hp.. etc. The 5000 really much prefers the 10' mower... anyhow.. back to the original posters issue.. One thing.. He is powering a finsih mower.. not a roung cutter.. I wonder how that factors in with hp requirements?? Do the batwing finish mowers require more or less on average hp per foot??

The Woods 9180rd 15ft finish mower is 3100lbs , 700lb tongue weight during transport and min. hp is 35.. I would never use a TC 40-45 for this . I am not familiar with the next models up the ladder in blue, green orange. After buying a TC25 and trading it with 10hrs for a TC33 , I don't want to buy too small.

I have nothing to base this on but limited logic, but I would guess that a finish mower needs more hp than a rough cut bush hog type. The blades probably have to spin faster, the grass is more dense, you need to think about discharge in a more controlled manner, etc. I'd guess about 10 to 15% more hp minimum, size for size.

My guess is 35 hp will make the blades spin.. and that is about it.
