Over filling front axle

Seems funny to me that the casting didn't break until after he had it worked on. What side was the seal replaced on? Was it the same side that broke? Some mechanics should be clasified more as blacksmiths than techs.

Same side as seal. I'm going to have some one else take a look at the break. Looks to me like there is an old (darker) area of the broken surface.
