Don't you have the keyswitch override system? The switch is right behind the battery by the linkage; you may be able to reach it without removing battery, but removing battery is a quick job; loosen two bolts that hold switch ( microswitch with an arm on it that touches the shifter linkage) remove one bolt and let it slide so it does not make contact with linkage, tighten remaining bolt to hold it in place. Not recommended to do to defeat safety system; just to check the operation of the switch only :)

whoops!! finally a nice day yesterday. looked into this "pto" issue. as directed, i did find a small micro-switch bolted to back of dash panel. appeared to have a long arm as part of the switch. i noticed that it would be "made" with shift lever going into the reverse direction. somehow the arm got "bent" when i had my hand in there. now pto does not disengage when put into reverse. i will probably have to look into that later! THANKS EVERYONE!!!
