I am currently running a rear mount snowblower on the front of my tractor. Because the front PTO spins the reverse direction from standard I am having a hard time finding an over running coupler to smooth out my operation.

I am thinking a taking a standard over running coupler and with a couple adapters installing it backwards on my front PTO. By doing this the coupler should free wheel as designed. My question is whether or not these devises can handle the power being input onto their output shaft (male end) and output onto their input shaft (female end).

Has anyone ever done this or taken one of these things apart to see how they work?

TIA,
Blane

Ive never taken one apart...but you shouldn't even need it for a snow blower. I use one for my mower and for my chipper/shreader as they continue to spin after disengaged. A snowblower will stop nearly immediately when clutch is pulled....mine always have

You're right. You normally wouldn't need one but I reversed the PTO input direction on the snowblower by using a loop of #80 chain. When I back off the throttle I am getting a little more chain slap than I would like when the fan bounces back and forth within the slack in the chain.

Thank you,

oh.. i see. I tries looking up a counter-clockwise and a clockwise overrunnung clutch and i only see them for standard direction.

I have always thought that most have a simple set of hinged dogs inside.

Since these dogs are just spring loaded straps of metal that end up being compressed (force is applied to both ends), I wouldn't think it would matter which side the power was coming from- they ought to hold it.

KYErik,

Thank you. I sort of thought it was something like that. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
