A few months ago I asked a question about an EZEE Flow spreader I was going to overhaul. For those interested, this is how it turned out. A little weld, a little sheet metal, a rookie paint job, and a couple new tires. Field Ready!

Did you repaint the lettering by hand?
It looks really clear and sharp

Great Job. Sure Brings back a lot of good memories from my childhood. BTW, I found 3 in one location over the weekend.(2 EZ flows and 1 Deere) I don't know what the price is, however, I will find out this weekend. Ken Sweet

Wow, that looks too nice to use! Good job. Interesting to me because I just bought a similar spreader. I have not picked it up yet, but I think it is an Oliver, but it is very similar to yours. I will also restore mine (but may not paint it, as it has little rust) just make sure everything works and is lubed up. Several questions:

Does your have agitator disconnects on the hubs, and if so, are they complex?

Did you repalace any bearings?

What tires did you use and what costs?

What do you plan to spread and what will you pull it with? I was wondering if it will spread Ag lime or does it need to be pellitized.

I bought mine for $375, what is an average price? I never see any around here. Just wondered. Also, what advantages does this drop type have over the more common 3 pt. hitch cone spreader?

Thanks! Again that looks great!

Where are you in South Carolina? I am in Greenville and hunt in the upstate. I assume you will use this for food plots.

It puts seed or fertilizer exactly where you want it, and does it evenly
The "spinner" types throw different things different distances.
If you were to mix clover seed with fertilizer, the fertilizer would be flung farther than the seed

If your ground has been worked at all, it's easy to see the tire tracks so you know what's already been covered. It's harder to judge with a broadcast spreader

Being closer to the ground, you won't get wind drift on breezy days

You can plant right up to a fence line without wasting material on the far side

HCJTractor,

Does your have agitator disconnects on the hubs, and if so, are they complex?
If it is like mine the agitator shaft will have a couple collars with set screws to adjust the float for alignment inside the spreader. The drive hub is a light press fit onto the agitator shaft with a woodruff key and drive pin to engage the wheel.
Did you repalace any bearings?
No Just a couple of bushings. No roller or ball bearing present just a lot of grease.

What tires did you use and what costs?
Nothing special. I actually lucked into getting them for next to nothing because a guy ordered them and never picked them up. However, you will also need a tube because your wheel probably isn't made to seal a bead like a tubeless tire does today.

What do you plan to spread and what will you pull it with? I was wondering if it will spread Ag lime or does it need to be pellitized.
I plan on trying to spread Ag Lime. They were used to spread Ag Lime in the past. I will also plant small grain seed/clover mixed in with the fertilizer.

$375 is a fair price if it is in good condition.

Also, in response to another post about the lettering. I made a template out of plexiglass and sprayed the black letters after painting the body.

The 3 that I found locally can be bought for $375 each on the 2, 8 ft EZ Flows and $595 on the John Deere. Ken Sweet

I just purchased a 10 ft Ezee Flow fixer upper. i plan on cutting it to 6 feet so it will fit into my fields better and cross bridges better. I have started applying Penetrating oil on the bolts, the wheels turn, the agitators turn but there is a lot of sheet metal rust. I also noticed that the shafts have a lot of play in the center bushing for the shafts.

I have some questions:
1. i am planning on doing away with the hopper assembly and making one that is taller so it will hold more material. Any comments on this idea?

2. i will shorten it down to 6 feet which end of the agitator shaft should be cut down? or does it make any difference.

3. one of the wheel/agitiator engagement mechanisms on the wheel has been welded and rigged. it still works, but does anyone know where i can get another one?

4. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, this is my first post and i a looking forward to learning a lot and maybe one day contributing something to the forum.

I have converted one to six foot like you are planning. Here is the end result. You will need to remove material from the center of the agitator shafts. I have included a pic that shows what is removed, and a pic that shows where I cut (2) two-foot sections from the hopper. Look it over carefully....it all lines up and is quite easy....IF you cut in the proper locations. All material removed is exactly 24".
