Isn't that a great thing when she does that.

I believe my wife does that on occasion when she's at work.
We had a B'day party for my daughter a few weeks ago. Many of the attendees were from suburbia. The lovely Mrs. bczoom made it a point to take them out and show them all the equipment.
Now she does give me a hard time now and then about too much seat time but was excited about giving the tour and proud of all the toys (I mean tools)..

Texastomtom that's how it starts, next she will have the spare key..... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My wife has been after me the last couple of weeks to teach her how to operate the TC-40D. I love my wife dearly, but I have seen her use a tool or two in the past and it isn't graceful. Think I ought to give in here? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Pine, end every instruction with "not doing this can get you dead" Teach her, tell her what she can do and cant do. They hate that, but thats why you end the sentance with "dead" Keep her just shuffelling things around or mowing flat areas for now.

Mine was a city girl, and didnt take to the tractor at first. But the 850 was easy to run and you can do a lot with a small tractor that takes a lot more to do by hand.

The 3510 I think is intimidating her some. About twice as many levers and a lot bigger. She drove it at the dealers, but not since it got home. This weekend she is going to get some seat time. It is real handy to have a spare operator at times.

My wife was surprised by the cost of my tractor. However, two weeks after I got it, a friend was over and we were taking turns [strike]having fun[/strike] clearing some underbrush to make a backyard. She came up to me and watched him for a few minutes and commented about the tractor:
"That thing is (insert expletive) awesome!" /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If you scare the bejeebers out of her, she may insist you sell it because she doesn't want YOU dead.

Or she may insist that you buy more life insurance... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Varmint,
You are exactly right. Mine was a city girl as well and was a bit overwhelmed with the levers and power and noise. She has had some seat time and really likes it but her area of interest/expertise is limited to the arena.

So far she is a fan of having the tractor and all the time it saves so I can do other things. Sort of reminds me of Henro's thread. "If I want to get all the things done that I want to I need a tractor."

I'm a "townie" who has been blessed with a farm girl. When we built, it was obvious the chain store riding mower wouldn't cut it. First came a Cub LoBoy, then the Ford 1210. A couple years ago while looking for another tractor, Wifey somehow thought it would be a good idea to have a tractor with a loader. So it was easy to add the B7500. She has often said since then that we'd be lost without it. She has no desire to operate either tractor, but enjoys seeing our boys help out...........chim

I can only say that if the woman said "She was having fun with some NEW EQUIPMENT" this I would have to make sure there was no new pool boys close by! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

as for keeping them off the TOYS we have then one reason I choose a gear drive tractor! hahaha. those hydros are too easy to learn to run and then all the FUN is gone and they get used to having "POWER between their legs" which could leave US GUYS setting on the back porch wishing we were out back playing err working /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You guys think it's hard trying to get the wife to let you buy a new tractor, just try to get a husband to let the little wifey buy a tractor!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My hubby was perfectly happy with a wheelbarrow and shovel and his walk-behind tiller. After last week when I put that big ole king kutter tiller on the back of the 7610 and chopped up the standing corn stalks, wiped out what was left of the beans and tilled the rest of the garden all while he tilled up one little row, well even he was impressed! Then we plowed up a grassed over, hard clay field in a couple hours to plant garlic and he was sold.

I think even he 's not sure how we did without it now.

As soon as we got the tractor I made (OK...persuaded) the wife get on it and dress up the manure pile. Good flat ground with nothing around to run into. She was a bit nervous but we kept it in low range and she felt a little more comfortable after a while.
I came home from work the other day and she was hard at work piling manure again, got the tractor out all by herself and even remebered to raise the box blade. Still working in low range but we'll get up to faster speeds later. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My wife wouldn't get on my antique tractors. I bought a Mahindra 4110 5 months ago and she enjoys using it. She won't use it if there is an implement attached to the back though, she's still getting comfortable with the loader

A few years back when I got the tractor I am not sure my wife thought I needed it. This last winter my business has been very sluggish and I mentioned we could sell the tractor to help out since I had it paid for. She said absolutely not, we are not selling the tractor. So I know now she likes having it around. I am not sure she likes me talking to it though?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

HMM? wonder who was the smart one? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif But she has been a good old girl for 41 years, great cook, and baker, wonderful mother and grandmother and lets me buy all the toys i want. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Frank, sure sounds awfully similar to things around my house. My bride of nearly 40 years has never been on a tractor (her choice), never been on a riding mower, but did use the electric start DR trimmer/mower just a couple of times, and has even used a walk behind power mower maybe a half dozen times. She might occasionally use a hand tool, but rarely; and to the best of my recollection, has never used any of my power tools. Her mother and sister have never had a drivers license; never learned to drive, and in spite of the fact that my wife has had a drivers license for 37 years and only crashed once, I'll still swear that the only reason she passed the driving test was because the examiner was a college classmate of mine and recognized me when I took her for the test. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

However, she keeps the house in good shape, the laundry done, cooks pretty well (she'll tell you I taught her), did lots of good canning on the farm, takes care of all the flowers and any other ornamental plants (I won't work on plants I can't eat, except to mow'em down), and gets along with other people better than I do, so I reckon I'll keep her. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

When we moved to the country 32 yrs ago. My country challenged wife dove right into the life. I came home to find that she had traded the camper top off my pickup for two stubborn ponies.
We had a Farmall Cub and 10 HP Wheel Horse to maintain our 7 acres. Oldest son was 9 yrs old. She learned the Wheel Horse well enough to show our son to do the lawn. A year later our youngest son was born. I think she started right off raising him to be a tractor operator. 20 years later, she went back to work. By the end of the first week, she had hired a lawn service to take care of the lawn.
When she retired a few years ago there was not a question about me getting a new tractor. She understands the tractor is a TOY that does a lot of work for the both of us.
She has not got on a tractor or lawn mower since the youngest son was born. In a couple of weeks, he will be 32 yrs old.
Now that I have retired, she has me to cut the lawn and use all the TOYS to complete her wish list.
She has no plans to operate the tractor or lawn mower during the next years. She still has the lawn services phone number posted nest to the phone if I am unable to do it.
