Is there some way to allow the PTO to run after you leave the seat? I have a sprayer with a PTO pump - I need to adjust the tips while it is running. I have tried to start the PTO without sitting on the seat - the tractor shuts off.

Help.

Setting the parking brake and in Neutral, I believe will do it. Maybe one or the other too.

Here's what it says in the online manual for the 4320 :

Using Rear PTO (Operator off Seat)
NOTE: The rear PTO can be engaged with the operator off the seat. The Safety Interlock System will stop the engine and all implements if the mid-PTO is engaged and the operator gets off the seat.

Engaging Rear PTO

1. Sit on operator's seat.
2. Move transmission to neutral position:

· PowrReverser: Depress clutch pedal completely and move the transmission gear and range shift levers to the N (neutral) position. Move the reverser lever to the N (neutral) position.
· eHydro: Move the range shift lever to the N (neutral) position.

3. Lock park brake.
4. Push the rear and mid PTO knobs to the disengaged/off position.

NOTE: The starter will not crank if the rear PTO knob is pulled to the engaged/on position.

5. Start the engine and adjust speed to 1500 rpm.
6. Get off the operator's seat.
7. Pull the rear PTO knob to the engaged/on position to engage the PTO.

· The engine should continue to run.
· The instrument panel PTO engaged light will illuminate when the rear PTO is engaged.

8. Adjust the hand throttle lever forward to the desired speed for implement used.

NOTE: The tachometer indicates a standard 540 PTO at engine speed of 2400 rpm.

I think all new tractors come with the seat safety switch...royal pain in the behind...neighbor finally had enough and placed a cement block on the seat if he needs to use PTO while not in the seat. He says he's too lazy to read the manual regarding the procedure used to make it work without being on the seat.

I disagree with this one 100%!

Those "Dead Man" (under the seat) switched are there to, hopefully, prevent accidents.

On my 790, it takes all of thirty seconds to set up the off seat PTO operation. Is that too long to prevent injury, or death?

Your neighbor, being "too lazy" as you mention is probably an accident waiting to happen.

I don't like being this harsh...and this post may be deleted for my comments...but bypassing safety equipment does result in some very nasty accidents.

I think it's #6 that's the catch here:
6. Get off the operator's seat.

I bypassed the seat safety switch on my riding mower since it bounces me all over the place and I end up bouncing off the seat enough to kill the blades which is annoying. I don't think I'd want the seat safety switch bypassed on our 4120 though...it's a tad bit bigger and more to worry about /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
