What a pleasant surprise. Started raining around 9pm last night and still is. Fortunately its not a torrential downpour. Definitely getting everything good and wet.

It is definitely what we need! Can't believe I am saying that!

Eastern WA set a record on Sat. 80 days without measurable rainfall. Previous record - 79 days. Previous record dates back to around 1900's.

Essentially, although not technically, the same for us on west side! Unbelievable summer but it appears to be over now. We had a bumper crop of corn in our modest 'victory' garden.

Typically, one should not have success with corn here! Harvested and in the freezer! :cool2:

Yeah, the commercial pot growers are very happy with the hot summer, which has produced a bumper crop of high potency weed in both Oregon and Washington. I haven't heard much about California, but they only legalized marijuana this year, and it will take them a while to get their processing facilities built.

It looks like we will get a few days of light rain. That won't be enough to put the fires out, but it will help contain them.

California would beg to differ...

From the website - Under this regulation, it is illegal to burn wood, firelogs, pellets, or other solid fuels in your fireplace, woodstove, outdoor fire pit, or other wood-burning device on days for which the Air District issues a Winter Spare the Air Alert.

Ah, so on certain DAYS where air quality would be worsened due to particulates, unless:

(A) Residential or commercial properties where a wood -burning device is the sole source of heat; or
(B) A low income household; or
(C) Residential or commercial properties where there is no existing infrastructure for natural gas service within 150 feet of the property line; or
(D) Residential or commercial properties located 3,000 or more feet above mean sea level; or
(E) Ceremonial fires exempted under Rule 444 - Open Burning.

So, pretty much on certain days in urban areas when air quality is a problem because of the mass of humanity living there... Offer not valid if it's your only source of heat, you're low income, you don't have natural gas within 150 feet, you're above 3,000 feet elevation or you are hosting a Pagan celebration.

Or as the TBN Conservatives like to say "OMG, it's against the law to burn wood in California because libs, libs, LIBS!"

What was you saying again about strawmen?

Heh, you haven't seen how the other(now locked threads) went down with the same suspects, you could have the code enforcement office beat them over the head with the ordinance book and they still wouldn't believe it's true. Best to just ignore them, don't feed the trolls and all that.

We didn't get much rain yesterday but ho boy did it come down today in torrents. Rain gauge currently sitting at 0.53in and climbing in between the breaks of blue sky.

Saw NWS Portland issuing tornado watches off of Astoria and Gray's Harbor just an hour ago. The weather is certainly back with a vengeance. Happy to see the rain though, hoping it greens up the pasture a bit so we aren't feeding hay 24/7 through fall/winter.
