Paint problems with Kubota Orange II

I am trying to touch up some dull spots on my Kubota Loader and mowing deck with some Kubota spray paint. It appears to be very transparent- so much so that it is impossible to cover any places where the original paint was worn through. Is this normal, or should I be suspect of the quality of the spray paint?

My dealer recommended using AGCO Corporate Orange paint for touch ups. He said it matches better than the Kubota Orange II spray paint. He said that is what they use in their shop for touch ups. I have only used it on my loader bucket but seems to match pretty good. He is also a AGCO dealer and I believe you can only find the AGCO Corporate Orange at a dealer.

Are you using a primer first? If not, use one that matches somewhat, like an iron oxide color- this may help some.

I have had a perfect match with Kubota Orange II. I have bought quart cans and sprayed in my air sprayer. Its durability is not nearly as good as that of the original orange that came with the tractor or implement. You are correct about its transparency, but two to three light coats will eliminate the issue. Also, shake the spray can for at least 2 minutes. You may not have a throughly homogenized product. Since the govt. made paint manufactures take the lead out of their paint , poor coverage is the result. If you use a similar color primer under it first , it will help . I painted 4 rear wheel weights with the "bomb" can kubota paint and it took 3 cans. Pathetic .

have you had actual quality with the kabota paint? the paint on my fell just flakes off...it has since brand new! the only place it stays on is where the dealer touched it up before delivery. i have emailed kabota about this but have not heard back...

Sounds like you have a surface prep problem. Many manufacturers are trying to minimize the surface prep of parts and assemblies before painting. This leads to flaking paint and unhappy customers. At least the dealer prepped the area he touched up.

I don't know how big the spots you're trying to cover but if they're small chips I use the "touch up" orange II. It comes in a small bottle and works perfect with one coat. Make sure surface is clean and dry of course.
