I'm building a 12x12 wood shed . Being as I do pole buildings ,I get the Cover sheets for free . The siding is painted and in good shape . But the colors are different from sheet to sheet .
I'm going to paint it all . But would like some suggestions on paint prep and paint type . I'm thinking of using a latex based low gloss and rolling /brushing it on . Thanks , John

I've seen folks around here build barns with panels of different colours. They just leave them like that. My only concern when painting over painted metal would be the surface prep. I've seen a lot of paint peal after it was put on over previously painted metal. To get the adhesion you need, you might need something to kill the gloss.

Darren . I've thought of using some sort if "deglosser to help the paint adhere . Even going over the metal with steel wool or a sander . Leaving the steel and trim the same color isn't very appealing to me . As it is red , grey , Burgundy , forrest green ,silver and brown .the trim is also quite varied . The shed will be out in the open ,and I don't want the neighbors asking me questions like ... " will your insurance cover the damage ? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Karsher has a wet sandblaster attachment for electric pressure washers. That would allow you to clean and etch the surface at the same time and leave a good surface for new paint.

Another point is the current coating is protecting the steel from rusting. If you compromise that and the paint you add doesn't do as well, you would have to periodically recoat the metal. Factory coatings will dull over time but they last. I've always liked the oil based Rustoleum paints. I've heard conflicting info about their current avaialbility. If any of it's correct the original formulation is still available in 1 and 5 gal. buckets. I think the stuff in the small containers has gone to a different formula to comply with environmental regulations. The old stuff was tenacious. The new stuff in the small containers doesn't seem to be as good.
