My friend and I have decided to put our machines to work. Here is a pic.

Beautiful pic, brings tears to my eyes /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

What size trailer is that a 12'? I think I would get a larger trailer. Probably difficult to tie them down and balance the load isn't it?

Still looks nice though.....

Re: Pair of BX\'s

The trailer is my friend's. It's a 6 x 12 and yeah it's a little tight. When he bought it he never thought he would need to put 2 machines on it.

That pic was taken in my driveway and it is a little uphill grade so maybe it looks a little funny. The trailer tows perfectly level so we have it balanced pretty well. We don't tie them down. They are jamed in there so tight they can't go anywhere short of a roll over. Hope I never do that though.

Re: Pair of BX\'s

Just be careful, I have experienced the trailer wreck and can tell you it is no fun at all. I was lucky and the trailer did not roll over although I was sure it was going to as it jack-knifed down the road several times. I had a garden tractor as part of the load and it was secured or probably things would have turned out differently.

Unfortunately I was towing an overweight 16' without brakes when I hit some washboard on Interstate 95 that sent the trailer into a sway. Nothing I did would straighten it out including stepping on the gas so around she came back and forth several times each time slowing my Expedition further until finally it through the truck sideways and I headed into the median and a row of trees. Luckily I got it stopped about 5' from the trees.

Only lost a part of my load and thank God no cars were close to me at the time. The people behind me stopped to help pick up the load I lost and said it was a miracle it didn't roll.

Anyhow, I am very cautious with weight distribution now.

Trailering has never been the same and never will.

Not trying to rain on your parade as I know you weren't looking for a lecture but still felt compelled to mention it.

Enjoy that tractor.

Re: Pair of BX\'s

Wow! That's quite a story. I'm glad you came out of it OK. I have never seen a 16 footer without brakes. Was it a tandem and was it home built? Just curious. You know you have a lot of weight behind you when it starts pushing that Expedition around. I have been driving heavy trucks at work for a long time and sometimes you just get caught out.

This is a 12 foot tandem with electric brakes. It's rated for 7000 lbs GTW. (trailer weight plus cargo weight) We figure as it sits in the pic it would weigh in at 4000 lbs GTW. BTW we'll be staying off the major highways.

Re: Pair of BX\'s

I would tie them down.

I had a close call last year transporting my Wheelhorse in the back of my Dakota 4x4. With the mower deck on it fits tight between the wheel wells (due to the bed liner), so I almost left with out tie downs. At the last minute I decided i better be safe than sorry and put 4 motorcycle straps on her. 10 miles down the road (50 mph) someone pulled out in traffic and 3 cars piled up in front of me. So here I am on the binders for all there worth with a toyota sideways on front of me. I slowed and swerved (glad I did) the guy behind me almost hit the toyota. Not a scratch to my truck or tractor. I was real lucky. So while everyone was waiting for Cops and tow trucks. The Wheelhorse and I sat over in Duncan Donuts and learned how to breath again.

Re: Pair of BX\'s

Mine wasn't homemade, but I had bought it in North Carolina where I was living at the time and they didn't require brakes. When I came back to NY it required brakes, but I sold it to someone else and let them put the brakes on as I decided I no longer needed one that large and downsized to my current 6.5x10'. Now go figure I have the Kubota and need the longer trailer again so eventually I will end up replacing mine again with a 14-16' with dual axles and brakes on both.
