A friend recently scrapped an old fork lift but kept the forks and brackets and will sell them to me for $200.00. That doesn't seem too bad considering the price of new forks. I would have to cut up the bracket and re-weld it to a QA plate. My only concern is the forks will only slide to a max of about 48" apart. Will that be far enough for most uses?

Yes. That will work for you.

You can buy a QA fork frame that will allow you to just slide on your forks. It will also allow the forks to be adjustable just like on a forklift.

I have bought several at Ritchie Bros. Auction. They run about $150 - $250 depending on the bidding action.

They also can be fabbed for other uses.
