Currmudgeon,

The builder and I where going over the weight of the brick cubes. They are roughtly 2.5'x2'x3' so at 150 pounds a cf we figured about 2,250 pounds. I found a brochure from one brick company and it listed some numbers. I came up with about 1800 pounds per pallet depending on the brick. My 460 can lift just shy of a 2000 pounds but that is full height so I should be able to move them.

In a couple of weeks we will find out if I'm right! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

jmc,

I did not see prices for the forks but Piranha's look just like Markhams. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the Markhams at $530 but I don't think I can get down there until next week.

So far Markham has been a pleasure to deal with. Melissa Markham has a good sense of humour.

I asked her if I could get the forks in the back of my truck. This is what she said., "Yes these forks will fit into the bed of a pick-up, we have even loaded them into the back of a mini-van- the wife wasn't to happy but the husband was ecstatic. Please let me know if we can help."

Sounds like the man was a TBNer! LOL! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

dbrauner,

I was thinking that I heard the JD forks costs around $1,000. The Markhams sound good.

Just brought home a 5' box blade in my wife's minivan 2 days ago - good thing she didn't see me unloading it with the FEL (a pretty delicate operation using the FEL less thank 6" from the liftgate...).

Hi again Dan,
The most I can pick up on my forks with my tractor (no weight in the rear) is 1200#. That would be a pallet loaded slightly biased toward the tractor. Anything you lift is quite a ways in front of the tractor causing a large leverage problem. To lift 2000# on the forks will require a lot of weight on the rear, even more than a backhoe I will guess. I figure it takes 3# on the back o my tractor for each additional 1# I would add on the front over my 1200# limit.
Best wishes,
David

I sent them an e-mail. I understand that the JD FEL's have their own quick connect system so I really want one that fits the JD bucket.

OTOH, the center of mass of your load is most likely to be farther forward with forks. So the lift arms are working at a mechanical disadventage, and can probably lift less.

You also have a greater overturning moment when using forks, so the danger of tipping over is greater.

Try BRADCO just bought a set for $800 and love them. Best built forks I have seen, including the Deere. (cant believe I said that)
