Forks Pallet forks to move a shed

I have a small duck house I built (think it's 3 1/2 x 6?), shingle roof and I wouldn't even think about being able to lift it with the loader. I think I used at least 4 bundles of shingles - that's 320 lbs alone! I built it on 2 x6 skids and I can drag it around pretty easily but forget about lifting the whole thing with the loader.

Are the forks you have the quick-tach DF-17? How much were they? I'm considering a set for my 1016 loader. I can't find them on Woodsonline tonight for some reason.

Dad moved our shed onto the slab with some machinery rollers that they use in factories. They look like king kong rollerskates. We made a track for them to run on out of plywood and used the tractor to pull it. Granted, he only had to go about 20 feet. This was more like a small garage as we used it to store the tractor in until it was overrun with junk. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well, I did more research. The shed has a polysomething roof but it's still heavy. In use it weighs about 850 lbs (it should get lighter as the green wood dries). Specs show the 4100 can lift this but this is probably at the pivot pin and not hanging 6' out front. When my 4100 lifted 800 lbs before, this was hanging off the bucket. I may get the forks anyway for general use, but it sounds like the shed will be pulled on skids. Fortunately it already has skids (put there just in case). I'll let you know if I ever try the forks. Thanks for your help.

Jon -- I had the same need on my hill...needed to move the chicken coop from place to place during the year. I ended up slipping a plank beneath the coop as a lever and using the FEL to tilt it back, then bolting 4x4 PT runners underneath. Now I can tow the coop all over the place with no trouble. The structure is an 8x8x8 cube built with 12"OC studs as I didn't want to lose any more birds to the remnants of a hurricane. So the sucker's heavy! Still, with the runners I have no trouble moving the hens to a new neighborhood now and then. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What do you suppose a 8x8 shed would wiegh? Its has a barn shape to it and is about 7' inside at the peak. There are four 2x2 trusses(?) that make up the whole frame, floor walls and roof. There is 1/2" plywood for the floor and roof, asphalt shingles, pressboard siding and 1x4 trim boards all around.

When I bought the kit from Menards I loaded everything into a 91 ranger ok. It was loaded a good bit. So probably around 1000#?

When my new house is done I'll have to take this with me if the new owners don't want it. So I'm trying to think ahead on how to move it onto my car trailer.

Using pallet forks and straps would be nice to use. Would probably have to use a sheet of 3/4" plywood under those trusses to distribute the wieght. Of course a bunch of fence posts a comealong and some straps would work as well.

Moved my shed last year with my b2410 . The shed weighed at least a 1000# Its 10X12. I used a floor jacket and raised it up enough to get two 4x4 treated posts under it. Once the 4x4 were under it i nailed 2x4's from one to the other. This keeps the 4x4's seperated. I drilled holes in both ends of the 4x4's and put pins in, attached a chain from my bucket hook on my front end loader to the pins and away i went. I rasied the front end loader just enough to keep the ends of the 4x4's from digging in the ground. Moved the shed about 100 yards with no problems. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I called the Kubota dealer and they have pallet forks in stock. They carry Bobcat forks that fit the quick attach on my loader. The prices were more than I expected though. The 42" is $685 and the 48" is $795. Perhaps these are overkill for my Woods 1016 loader. I didn't specs.

I have moved buildings w/ a SSL and forks.
Lifted up front w/ forks and put 2 chains on back of building
around a 12' oak 6x6 to pull against.
I then pulled building to edge of drive and blocked up 2'
or so.
Backed 24' deck over trailer up to it then got behind and lifted
it up while pushing onto trailer w/ SSL (hydro really works nice
for this).
I also used the 12' tilt deck to move a 12' long building,
same set up but didn't need as much height.

In Tx we hunt deer out of things called "box blinds". Anyway, I moved a 6'x4' one of these with a steel frame and plywood sides, galvalume roof by slipping the edge of the loader under it and running a chain around it to the hooks welded on the top of my bucket. Tightened with a chain binder and I was all set. It was very heavy and huge, but my 2910 did just fine with a boxblade as a counterweight.
