I built some storage bunkers for compost (barn/chicken house cleanout) and chipped waste from my sawmill.....you can pile up a whole lot of chips in short order !

Because my wood shed is too far to carry armfuls. I built a pallet with casters and sides with fencing. Now i just bring over with the tractor and wheel it into the basement.

Yep. I only have to deal with branches and my chipper is a small, but robust, 'garden type'. It does the job but only has a small basket to collect... a 'pain in the arse' when there's a fair bit to do.

It's a top-loader and fires the chips out of the bottom. So the plan is to aim the chips into the collector-pallet, then dump/spread the chips to various places on the property that require it.

Pallet uses:
Fast unloading after coming home from a shopping trip (especially when it's a large quantity, or large/heavy stuff - tend to put a pallet in the back of my truck for this purpose when going to buy such things),
work platform/impromptu scaffolding for low heights (e.g. not much more than truck bed height),
portable toolbox/long handled garden tool rack (haven't gotten to building either of those two just yet, but it's planned)
platform for moving planted pots (much like a carry all)
a spacer between the wheel wells in my truck bed so I can transport objects that won't fit between the wheel wells
storage of implements (mostly those where accessing them or other items requires shuffling things around)

Pallet fork uses (not already covered elsewhere or inherent to the designed purpose):
impromptu work bench (used for mower blade sharpening in picture)

lifting partially assembled carport (pre-lift in picture) for final assembly

light weight extended reach lifting either with a strap on the forks directly or extending the fork tines with a piece of lumber/pipe that's securely fastened to the tine(s) ...while I don't have a picture as part of that carport assembly I also used the 4x4s as extended tines to lift/hold some of the other pieces for assembly

interesting thread!!

I just picked up some plastic pallets so I can set landscaping supplies on them that might not be used for a year or two. they seem to hold a fair amount of weight too.
