Hmmm... after long thread observations, I would venture to say, the pallets are seasonal and influenced by outside variables.

I never thought of it but maybe they grow like that and get harvested.

I went by a couple of fields on my way to work this morning and guess what -- there were no pallets. It is now truly a new mystery -- what is happening to all the pallets?
