You're familiar with Lt. Torello? Only other person besides me I've ever seen use that term.

No, never saw the show...had to IMDB it...I do like like Dennis Farina so I'll check it out...he was great in 'Get Shorty'...

I use the term in the literal sense...especially when it's so fitting as sub post replies prove the point...(an average 3rd grader has more wit and wisdom).

I hesitated to respond, but then I realised it is not possible to hijack the Pallets Thread :)

I know the Furphy tanks well, as they could be seen on almost every old farm in my area. Their factory is located in Shepparton about 90 kilometres from me.
The system was well thought out with reusable cast iron tank ends and filler/cap. You simply replaced the tank body with a new sheet of flat tin if it rusted out.

The tanks ends are well known for the writing on them, which changed many times over the years.
The famous slogan is "Good, Better, Best, never let it rest, until your good is better and your better best." I forget most of the other things, there was one about water being a gift from God. As a kid, I remember wondering why there was some sort of scribble that looked like Arabic or something. Found out many years later that it was Pittman Shorthand.

In recent years, Furphy tank ends have become very collectable, often fetching more than $1000 each at farm clearing sales. An aquaintance had a collection of more than 40 different ones, one of which he said was from the 1920s and was very rare.
