It works great plus no weed seeds or grass seeds to deal with, if your using grass as a mulch. At the end of the year i put double ground hardwood much on top and let it sit all winter by spring its ready to get turned into the soil. This will be my second year doing that and i have noticed my soil seems to be much looser. I have also used a soil conditioner from the book gardening when it counts. the author recommends using
seed meal and 3 parts lime, i usually use 1 scoop 101010, 1 scoop meal (blood, bone, or seed) and three scoops of lime. I will use this three times a year, once when i plant, once in the middle of the year and once before harvest to give it a boost. I also spray with a compost tea....it seems to be working nice. I collected a couple pounds of hops last year from one plant alone.
