Parade

IF my brand new JD 2720 is delivered in time, I am thinking of driving it in a parade while it is still clean and shiny. The route is about 2 miles long but I think it will take a little over an hour to drive the route, at least that is how long it takes to watch it go by.

Is this a good idea? I am beginning to think I would be better off NOT breaking in the tractor this way. Maybe I should make it work for it's first few hours?

Good question. I would not work a new engine hard, but I wouldn't let it idle for long periods either. Parades involve a lot of slow and idle time. They move at maybe 2-3 miles per hour with many short pauses if there are walkers in them. Maybe if you brought you rpm's up while stopped, or run in a low low gear - if you have them.

Be interesting to see the engine experts opinions.

A parade is slow and involves a lot of stopping and starting. Running in low gear with higher RPM is probably best for a new engine. We had a tractor cruise up here which was 12.5 km's and it took us about 1.25 hours to go the total distance. Mind you we were going about 8mph. If you go get some pictures for us.

Bigtiller. Did you end up going in the parade. If so I hope you had lots of fun. It is quite a sight to see, not an everyday occurrence.

yes, I went to the parade. There has been 2 of them in two different towns since I started this thread but my tractor has not been delivered yet so I just sat and watched it go by. I wish I would have remembered to take some pics. There was a home made 3 wheeled tractor that was really cool. Slightly bigger than a garden tractor but with a front wheel and tire that was about 5 foot tall. The driver couldn't see over it, he had to look around it.

Sound intnteresting. I would have loved to have seen it. How many tractors were in it?

A group of shriners had about 6 and some local peopld had another 8 or so. No lawn mowers this year and only three 4-wheelers.

I got my new 2720 delivered today. I sure am glad I wasn't determined to be in the parade. The tractor needs a full day of cleaning to be "parade ready". My dealer didn't even clean the pidgon poop off the dash!!

Speaking of parades, did any of you attend/participate in the "World's Largest Parade of Classic Tractors" at the Nebraska State Fair back in August?

I caught part of the parade on RFD-TV. I enjoyed it, but wished the commentators had been able to offer more insight/info about many of the models.

I wish I would have. There was a long list of rules for the parade. It took like 3hours to complete I think. I had read about it on there website. Have any of you did the Mackinaw Bridge tractor crossing?
