But my first exposure to mexican food was in Arizona and I learned to like chiles.
Back in the 70s I had some cousins who lived in Arizona, went to visit them once and they took me to a restaurant where there was a Mexican dish of some sort with a couple of what looked like pepperoncinis on it. They offered me one, and silly me who'd at that point never been outside New England took a big bite. YEOWCH!!! was that hot!! They, of course knew already and found my agony quite amusing. 🔥

Moab has never excited me. Just my perspective because I know it’s a destination for many people. Too barren for me.
I'm not fond of large crowds of people, and I've found just as much beauty (if not more) in the Canyonlands area just as much as the Grand Canyon without having to deal people (one reason why if I go, I go to the north rim vs the south rim LOL).

Go in early to mid may (Utah), it was like having the the whole area as my own back yard LOL

As mentioned, haven't been out there since I took my girlfriend and dad 25 year ago, and almost afraid of what the place may have grown into (Moab).

Out of all the pics I took when I use to go out there, this is my favorite...

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would come across a black bear at Dead Horse point state park. I knew I was around him, and took me some time to get this pic of him (back then, I didn't have a camera as a phone and I had to get the pic quick).

What show are you going to? Red Rocks for a concert is on my bucket list but I'll never get there. LOL
Apologies, missed your post.

I'd just like to say we'll be out there in early August ;)

The natural amphitheater has always been on my wife's bucket list.

Since we have now officially become empty nesters, we're making it a priority to make the time and travel to just get way with the both of us now that time allows us to.

For at least 15 years with the kids and both of our jobs, the most time we could take off was perhaps a week together, and it was always harder for me to take time off than my wife due to how much time she has accumulated at being at one place for nearly 30 years LOL

Wife just asked me if I felt like going, and I said sure, why not (I was always interested in the venue, just would never spend that kind of money with airfare and everything else just to see a concert), and we figure since we'll be in Colorado for the concert, it would be an absolute sin not to go exploring in an area neither of us have been to.

I guess the better way to look at it was we planned the concert since we were going to be out in that area anyways instead of booking the concert first and then decide to plan a vacation around it (which we actually did).

Hopefully it's the Tedeschi-Trucks show!

Hate to say it, but never heard of them, but may need to check them out.

My buddy recommended Big Head Todd and the Monsters when they were playing out west last year when we took a trip, and they weren't that bad.

Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. Trucks is a guitar legend and his wife Susan Tedeschi is a great player as well. Blues/Allman Brothers style music. Trucks actually plays in the current Allman Brothers lineup.

BHT will be great to see there!

I've visited Moab a couple times, once in the mid 70s and again in the mid 80s, both times in late Sept/early Oct. Was a fairly quiet little backwater both times, but this was before it became an off-roading mecca.
Spent a couple days in the area, wilderness camping and a visit to Arches. Really enjoyed it.

Spring and fall are the busiest times for Moab. Summer is popular too with school out but very hot. I once flew out there over Christmas. The place was a ghost town. Motel rates were dirt cheap.

I once scared a black bear up in the LaSals. I was on my motorcycle and saw a little used mining road. I started down it and bear jumped into middle of the faint road. Startled me then ran in the opposite direction.
