Will the owners of JD's with these type transmissions please comment on the apparent recurring problems they have. Nobody seems to want to provide a straight answer. What exactly was/is the problem? How was it remedied? How did JD reimburse you for repairs?

Thanks,

Rick

Let's try this again. The fact that nobody responded has me spooked. Did they send the JD police to owners with the parking pawl problem, (In a Brooklyn accent) "You ain't got no parking pawl problem...Understand?"
Are green helicopters making fly-bys on your acreage?

JD5103 and Kubota MX5000 are battling it out for my attention. JD5105 and M4800SU waiting in the wings but probably not due to $$$.

C'mon Cowboydoc....you've got the inside track (so we all think)...what's the story? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've never heard of it being a problem at all. If you want to give me a specific model or something I can ask. I think the reason you haven't gotten any answers is that it must not have been too much of a problem if it ever was one at all. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Does any parking pawl on anything work perfectly?

I had a JD 4600 with the collar shift tranny. Never had a problem in the 300+ hours.

Now, what exactly is this parking pawl /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just come to a complete stop before putting the tractor in park and you shouldnt have a problem.

Ok, I don't know how to link threads so here's some quotes including what I assume is the post #. The problem appears to be with collar shift transmissions with a parking pawl. One poster refers to a JD 5300. The other refers to a 4400. When pricing out a JD 5103, one dealer said he wouldn't sell one due to the ongoing problem with the parking pawl.

Has anyone experienced trouble getting the're parking paul to release in their transmission. I have a 5300 jd, and have had trouble with it from the first week. The dealership worked on it under warauntee and the next time it caused close to 6000 in repairs to the tranny. Just got a recall on it after 5 yrs of ownership to put a "fix"on it. I have the syncro trans with the forward reverser on the dash.

#226974 - 01/16/03 10:37 PM Edit Reply Quote The first week it froze in park. The parking pawl would not release. Went to the shop several times with this problem on warrantee. The last time it stuck it took out the creep gears when it released, whiplash I guess. That tear down was 6000$. I put up a pretty good arguement as it was a design flaw and figured that I had paid for R&D when I bought the tractor. Came down to JD, the dealer, and I each paid a third of the bill, what crap that was. Well 2yrs later I get a recall to replace the parking pawl cable and shifter. Still have an ongoing case with JD, figure they owe for the past problem now that they have admitted that it was onother design flaw.

Just had to let you folks know that JD came clean and they are sending me a check for the work on the faulty parking pawl problem. I guess I will go to JD the next time I need one.

I have not the slightest idea what a parking pawl is. It apparently is NOT a parking brake.

Are you saying this parking pawl gizmo is kinda like the gizmo that makes 'Park' in car automatic tranny work?

If that's the case, my 4600 didn't have one. It was just an unsynchronized standard shift tranny. 9 forward, 3 reverse, stop before you shift.
