Parts availability issues with JD

I am looking to buy a new JD. One of my neighbors who had a farm has a 5000 series think 5085E but not 100% sure. He said it is 10 years old and he can't get some parts for it. Claims JD is not what it used to be and subs out all parts and getting parts for newer tractors is becoming a issue. Has anyone else run in to issue like this.

The few parts that I've needed for both of my JDs have either always been available at my dealership or have arrived withing 3 days of ordering (I live on an island State, so shipping across Bass Strait is involved). That includes parts for the YANMAR donk. There may be a delay in getting a particular part due to central parts warehousing (ie: a dealership no longer carries all parts in their 'back room'). I reckon that this is true for all colours of tractor with some being worse than others.

Tractor (all models) support is a hallmark of John Deere.

The 5085E has been built for about 5 years now, while the parts may be expensive I haven't heard of these parts not being available.

John Deere is one of the best manufacturers as far as parts availability. Caterpillar is best on parts in my world. Some of the other brands take longer to get and a few brands can be a nightmare.

I have a lot of old John Deere equipment and I am not having issues. A lot of it I have to order. The also seems to be A lot more salvage and after markst parts available for John Deere equipment. Although I can't comment on equipment made after 1990-2000.

For the Yanmar-built smaller Deeres, model 750 through 1050 and their later variants, Hoyetractor has parts that are now NLA from Deere.

Hoye's specialty is support for gray market Yanmars starting from the 70's, providing NAPA-quality replica parts from the world market where these models are more widely used. Many old Yanmar models are like old Jeeps, and VW's, they are in use all over the world and there will be parts for many years. And many Yanmar parts interchange to Deere, for example Deere 850 is a twin to a Japan-market Yanmar model that was more widely sold worldwide so is well supported.

I think you are best to buy a common Green or Orange model if this is your overriding concern, you shouldn't have trouble with spare parts... it might take a little longer than you would personally expect but look at all your alternatives. I haven't heard of any parts/repair problems with JD or Kubota vs. others. Those are your leaders. I wouldn't want to bet on other brands doing better.

Sometimes dealer parts personnel that are LAZY are to blame not JD for unavailable parts. Ask your neighbor for some part numbers that he states are unavailable & I will see if the parts are truly NLA.

Deere has been great with parts in my experience. Just got a minor part for a 2002 machine and they had it in stock.

Trigger, I suggest you go out and buy yourself a tractor from a small South (or even North) Korean, Chinese or Indian manufacturer which is imported in low numbers and whereby you will have the undivided attention of the agent when you need any part whatsoever from their bulging USA-located warehouse. After all, you hardly see any problems with those makes on these type of forums.

Or move house, so you aren't so easily infected by your septic, I mean sceptic (Dang auto-correct!) neighbour.
