Wondering what you folks have found to be the best parts cleaner. I have tried quite a few along with diesel fuel and have not been impressed by any so far. I work in an attached garage so smell is a concern. Thanks.

Mineral spirits in a parts cleaner tank with a cover for me. Blow the parts off outside. If it claims to be 'green' or environmentally friendly, it's junk.

If you find something let the world know. The old solvent was as good as it got. Gasoline worked good but has its own problems.

Simple Green does lite work ok but limited. Spray degreaser is pretty worthless now days.

Soak, scrub, soak, scrub seems to be it.

We use either gasoline, brake parts cleaner, or the purple power stuff from napa, advance or tractor supply. Usually ends up being some combination along with wire brushes, screw drivers/scrapers, and the pressure washer. Simple green never had enough power for heavy gunk. If you are worried about damaging it, dawn or simple green is prolly the best bet along with some mechanical action!

I get this orange degreaser from work that will also dissolve asphalt. the stuff comes from the US 'for export only'. It is called Rhomasol. It is an excellent degreaser as well and smells like oranges! I also have used it to soften the glue on the striping on my boat that was there since new in 1986.

Looks like we are all in the same boat. We wash a lot of parts here and then finish them with brake cleaner. Many of the brake cleaners are no longer any good. My favorite is Walmarts. Some cannot even take off a marker. Tried simple green and thought it was way over rated. Have tried a few orange smelling cleaners that did little more than glass cleaner. Mineral spirits are about the best but tend to stink my house up. Acetone can work fairly well but have not tried it on a larger scale. Pretty sure the smell will be too much. Probably going to go with 1/2 kerosene and 1/2 something else. Not sure what yet.

I used the yellow concentrated stuff from Harbor Freight. Watered down 4 gallons of water to 1 gallon of concentrate. I clean a lot of very greasy machinery and hardware on a daily basis. This stuff is cheap and it is amazing. I use it in spray bottles full strength to clean car tires, dirty appliances, garage floor spills, etc. You need to test painted finishes before using this on them, it will take some paints right off in under 3 minutes. It will also etch glass so don't spray it on your storm door to remove doggie nose art and forget to wipe it immediately! They also sell a green concentrate that is supposed to be even stronger, but I have not used it.
