Parts cleaner?

   / Parts cleaner? #11
Of course I had a lot of parts cleaning to do when I was repairing/rebuilding mechanics' air tools. I had a parts cleaning cabinet from Northern Tool and used Varsol that I bought from the local Exxon distributor. I don't know of anything that would work any better than that did. Anything, such as rust, that it didn't clean went into the sandblast cabinet with glass beads instead of sand.

Pretty sure our last stuff was from Napa and not impressive and smelled. May how to check out harbor freight and tsc.

I find that "greased lightning" from Sam's Club works a lot better than Simple Green. Same idea, but a yellow jug and stronger. That, plus a little brushing on thick/stubborn crud followed by a blast from the hose nozzle. Blow out with compressed air nozzle, particularly if there's naked iron or steel to rust.

I've always used either Varsol or just plain paint thinner in my parts washer. If it's really tough I use oven cleaner and I've also used Zep's Purple Cleaner full strength on some things and I was very pleased with the results.
