Hi guys, I am in the process of buying a FX26D that should be here soon. My question is concerning two parts in particular. I have have had to replace a hydrolic pump in a massey Ferg. tractor in the past (multiple 1000's hrs) and I am curious as to if I should be concerned with this in the yanmars. Does a tractor in the 1000-2000 hr range still have loads of hrs left on the pump(assuming it is taken care of)? If not have any of you had much in way of problems getting a pump from japan or rebuilding the pumps you have? Second I am wondering the same types of questions with the front wheel drive units on these little tractors(gears rebuildable?Machinable?). I am GOING to buy it so please don't start a thread about whether I should or not. I am simply asking questions because I have never had to deal with getting my parts from as far away as Japan. I am not so worried about having to wait as I am about just finding the parts. Thanks in advance. I have been VERY impressed with these little tractors and look forward to owning my first yanmar.

Great tractor. I have a FX24D, and love it. Just wish it had power steering now that I have a FEL. Only problem I have had in 3.5 Yrs is a front wheel seal leaking. It was fixed under warranty by my dealer. Powershift is a great xmission. Just moved lots of snow down here in So MD. Used the xmission back and forth without clutch to move through drifts and my man made piles.

Some of the better Yanmar dealers have parts contacts in Japan so hopefully they will still be able to get parts for the grays. As for the Hydraulic pump we haven't had many people write in with pump problems. There was a discussion about having one rebuilt at a home town hydraulic shop and I beleive it worked out well.Seems like the front end is more likely to need seals than gears. Gears might be harder to come by.

I'm not sure if this is going to be of any use, but maybe it will be. It's not about a Yanmar, but I think the point should apply, so here goes.

A friend of mine lunched his ancient Kubota and went tractor shopping. He came across a gray market Mitsubishi and bought it.

Once he got a box blade on the 3 point, all kinds of erratic hydraulic problems showed up. He took the tractor to a commercial equipment shop that specialized in hydraulics (not a tractor dealer, and not brand specific). The shop owner took one look and said, "Oh yeah. We can fix that."

A couple of weeks later (the shop was backed up), the tractor's hydraulics worked perfectly. My friend was very happy with the work, although he did complain about the price a bit. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Hydraulic pumps usually don't fail due to hours. They usually fail due to abuse. Starving pump, dead heading it or dirt. Most pumps are not repairable , other than replacing seals..

I concur with Lens12. And yes you can still get a pump for that tractor.

I'll address the front axle parts issue as I just completely rebuilt a front axle for a YM1110D. I didn't think it would be possible because the axle had been run for some time with mud as a lubricant. On the YM series tractors, the front drive assembly in part consists of what is known as the "tower gears" rotating on the pivot shaft. On most of the YM front axles, these gears use needle bearings using the gears and shaft as races. Obviously mud in there completely destroyed the bearings and badly wore the shaft and gear. I have attached a photo of the shaft to give you and idea of the wear. My contact even in Japan could not get the gears (I have to note here that the tractor is considerably older than your FX26D and that I believe is the reason the gears were not available).

However, with a lot of help from dealers on this board (a special thanks again to Buck at EFC) I was able to fix the axle. All the bearings and seals were available from a local bearing house - with the exception of the big knuckle seals which I got from a Yanmar dealer. I replaced the needle bearings with a Delrin bushing, and had the shafts turned down by a machine shop. In the end, I successfully repaired the axle, and the tractor is up and running.

I guess in short, I would have to say that the axles are repairable unless you have broken a gear. And even then, depending on model, you may be able to get a new or used gear. Short of that, you could also have gears made - expensive, but possible.

If the axle is in good condition now - I highly recommend draining the fluid and replacing it with a high quality gear lube. Try to keep the tractor out of the rain since water can sometimes seep in through seals - though the F series front axles are designed differently so that the pivot shaft for the tower gears does not come out the top of the casing - and that is where water most commonly enters the axle.

I think I can speak on this subject. I have an FX26D(That is for sale by the way /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) and it has a front end loader and 1852 hours. I have had the tractor for 7 or 8 months with no problems what so ever. The loader works great, power steering is sweet and the 3 point is flawless. Like the other guys said, there is usually something that makes a hydraulic pump go bad, not age alone.

Thanks guys for the info. I was glad to not start some kind of war with that post after reading posts on other boards. I was not inquiring due to a problem with the tractor I was buying, I was mainly inquiring because of problems I have had with OTHER brand tractors in the past and I was wondering about the same parts that may go wrong with my new(to me) FX26D. You guys are very much appreciated and I thank you for the info. Oh by the way, to the gentleman with the FX26D for sale, how come you are selling it after only having it for 8 months?
