Got the 2x8's drilled and hung. It was much easier to drill all 6 at once and then use the same jig to drill the posts. This seemed to work in keeping everything in line and pretty much a straight-forward bolt up assembly in the air. I kept having problems with my saw-blade bending on the decorative cuts and leaving a angled cut rather than a square cut. I changed saws and began using my grandpa's older skil-saw jigsaw which has the older style blade support and that remedied the problem. I always knew I should hang onto his old power tools!

A bit later, I got most of the 2x6s up. I'm a bit skeptical on toe-nailing the cross-boards but I'm sure everything will be more secure when the final boards go up.IMG_5270.jpgIMG_5273.jpgIMG_5282.jpgIMG_5284.jpg

Well its 95% completed. I lack a few trim pieces at the base of each post and then the knee brace at the top. This project has been a pleasure to construct and relatively easy. I think staining was the most tedious portion. Its amazing how much shade it provides and how much it helps keep our house cool on these 104F summer days.

It's a beauty! Now take a seat under it and sip a cold drink and enjoy your great work.
