Can't you stack the shims (under the lift arm)? Or do no combination of shims work.
I wouldn't worry about the lower (side) threaded hole being below the lift arm. I started to question the need for those bolts after bending the weak bolts supplied with the Pat's, then replacing them with a stronger Grade, then bending them too, then snapping bent bolts off trying to extract them, then having to take it to a machine shop to extract (I screwed it up REAL good!). (Hint: Cut bent bolt in interior before trying to extract.)
Lately I've been wondering if the Pat's should be left loose (side-to side) so that it mimics the action of the swivel ball in the lift arm that gets eliminated by the Pat's. Being fixed (side-to side) seems to cause too much stress on these bolts.
