I am one of the first customers to complain when a company's "customer service" fails me and I am pretty slow to praise companies and businesses that provide great customer service. For the record I have nothing but praise for the folks at Greenwell Mfg who make Pat's quick hitch.

I am a fan of the John Deere Imatch hitch system but I have too many non-compliant attachments that don't fit the top hook on the imatch quick hitch. I know that I can adjust the top hook up or down not only is it not convenient it sometimes creates an awkward angle that can not always be resolved with the top link adjustment. My three point hitch mounted wood splitter is an example. And, of course the post hole digger can not be used with the imatch quick hitch and I use this attachment frequently during the summer.

I had Pat's hitch on my John Deere 3720 that I sold 3 years and replaced with the 4066r. Pat's hitch saved me a lot of frustration hooking up all of my three point implements but the 4066r has the "hitch assist" feature that is very helpful. It allows tractor movement and three point hitch raising and lowering from a switch on the rear fender so that feature makes hooking the implements easier but doesn't doesn't completely eliminate difficulty when the implement is not perfectly level. This is where the quick hitches all shine.

I found a used Pat's quick hitch on craigslist at a reasonable price but the seller advised me that it was missing one of the draft pins that secures the hitch to the three point arm. I knew I could find a standard pin to replace the missing piece but thought I would check with Greenwell mfg to see if they could replace the missing piece. I spoke with one of the most pleasant company representatives I've ever come across who told me the pin would be shipped and all she needed was an address. I had to ask her to pause for a minute as I just wanted to see if the pin was available and if so, at what cost. She advised me there would be no cost and it would be shipped at no cost as well. I told her that this was NOT a new hitch that I had purchased that was missing the pin but rather a used hitch. She said, "Don't worry we will ship it out today".

So my rather long rant is to focus on the response from this company. I was actually shocked that this company would send a customer the replacement part, albeit small, free of charge and including shipping. SO, I am left with the most favorable impression of this company and felt I had to share this. I think too many us, specifically me, fail to recognize when companies and their representatives do great things for their customers but are very critical when they fail. Greenwell Mfg hit it out of the park on this one and they should be recognized for it.

Thanks for posting! It's nice to hear when a company goes the "extra mile"

I lost a part to a Reese hitch sway control. My fault, left it loose on the bumper and forgot it was there and drove away. I went to a dealer to buy a replacement. They did not have the part in stock and suggested I call Reese and gave me phone number. I called explained the problem and part lost. Their reply go buy it from one of our dealers. So back to the dealer and had them order the part.

I've been looking at the differences in all of these quick hitches. I only have a chipper and a ballast box to hook to the back. I plan on getting a log splitter maybe next year. Oh, I have a drawbar to pull a wagon. Having looked at these options, I just don't want to drop $300+ on a JD iMatch. I also don't want to waste $100 on a Harbor Freight unit that won't work. I like the idea of the Pat's quick hitch but I'm a little hesitant. One thing holding me back is the price of this. It seems kind of pricey for just two adaptor heads.

What is the old saying... "he who hesitates is... " ?? Go for it, and let us know how it works for you. Sounds like you will enjoy it..

I don't regret my iMatch, but don't have experience with Pat's.

I had a Pat's. It worked well with everything except my BushHog. The mower is fairly heavy and the draft arms would get forced out against the washers/pins and jam up. I had no issues with my York Rake etc.

A conventional quick hitch wouldn't have this problem because the distance between the draft arms can't change.

Telescoping stabilizers may have prevented the outward movement of the draft arms. I have chain type stabilizers.

I ran across these videos after my experence. His explanation is better than mine.

I have HFT QH, but too many of my 'light' implements need the extra bits to connect the top link, as the 'hook' often won't clear a brace angling up just behind the pin-hole. (FS, first $50, pick up only )

No prob w/Pat's & no adjustments in 3-4 yrs. No issues when using BB, LR, or with the tiller, flail mower, or disc, having used those three again within the last few weeks. I've backed into things and bent draft arms a few times :( .. only discovered so later on. Nothing came unattached either time, but if I forget to use the washers I get a do-over within a few feet of travel. :confused2:

I don't mind getting off the tractor to connect something (PTO shaft) and with the SSSSSSSS* one can't just reach around a fender to an HST pedal and creep into position. IMO Pat's is the next best thing to having extendable links. I've had both, and imagine upgrading to the latter would cost more than PEC.

I have a set of Pats. Very nice. On my tractor it took a little bit of time to set them up. There is 4 bolts that give some adjustment to square them up.

Yeah, I'm in the wrong forum, I'm usually in the blue, LOL, but any way....

I have one of the early Pat's. I bought it in probably 2004 or 5. Has been on the tractor ever since. Only thing it wasn't compatible with was a sickle bar mower that I only put on the tractor one time and then sold. Other than that, everything has been just fine with it other than I wore the cotter pins out that hold the little tab in place that holds the latch open. I've used it with a dirt scoop, phd, bush hog, box blade, scraper blade, rototiller, potato plow, subsoiler, trailer mover, and hay spear.

Yes, I know what you mean about time required to adjust. Given that I have Class I and Class II attachments I always have to readjust them when going back and forth between attachments. Even so, hooking up attachments is still faster.

The first set of bolts Pat's set with their hitch had no Grade classification, were very weak, and lasted about 2 minutes before they were bent up. I replaced them with a Grade 5 bolt which was better. But they still get bent up.
Hint: Cut them off with a grinder on the inside of the Pat's hitch before you attempt to back them out. Otherwise you just break off the bolt head. After spending 2 hours trying to extract broken off bolt, my Pat's hitch are now at a machine shop trying to extract these broken adjustment bolts.

I think the problem is that the Pat's hitch, like every other quick hitch system, eliminates the swivel ball that are part of the lift arm. As the lift arm raises and lowers, the angle of the attachment's pin relative to the lift arm changes. Not being able to swivel it has to "slide" which puts tremendous "sideways pressure" on the Pat's hitch, which gets leveraged into these bolts resulting in their failure.

Lately I've got to thinking: Perhaps I'm mounting the Pat's wrong.

Is there any reason the Pat's has to be tighten with these bolts onto the lift arm? Should they be kept loose so that the Pat's has some "sideways swivel movement" when the arms are raised and lowered?
