I've bought expensive ones and cheap ones but i recently bought a chinese break 22 for my kid for $46 from one of these ag/automotive stores that only stock no-name and being a skeet shooter i find it's one of the nicest air rifles i've handled ...? My kids have had rifles that cost $200 odd bucks that i thought were awful ... The name means nothing these days....

I have a Gamo .177 carbine sport (I think it's discontinued now). Great for squirrels & chipmunks. .177 does allow some to run off a ways but they don't go far. MikeD74T

Don't know where its made but I recently bought a benjamin and its engineered far better than all the daisy's I've owned in my life. It's got the heft of a real rifle, and it's a single pump with some new nitrous charging system that's supposedly better than a spring. Gets the better quality pellets downrange at 1500 fps, and comes with a nice 3X9 scope.
Think I paid around $250 for it in the "sportsman guide" catalog.

Haven't shot it yet, but will be soon for all the same reasons you'll be using it on......might even try a groundhog....!

good luck!

I also have a Diana, I think its model 52. Single pump 177 cal. Its not cheap, I think I paid around $550 with a scope. Its worth every penny. Very powerful, very accurate. You will be amazed at its killing power. Don't waste your money on the cheap multi-pump crap. Spend a little more and you will have it for life.

$550 for an air rifle? :confused2:
You can buy a Ruger 10-22 for under $200. A .22 long rifle hollow point will solve any problem critter around. No way you can make a humane dispatch of a woodchuck with an air gun.
Maybe a problem chickadee.

...a Daisy, worked well but lost it in the divorce shuffle...

TIA

Sorry about the divorce but any woman who would clean a man out right down to his air gun - well, you're better off without her.

They say divorce is expensive because it is worth it... she cleaned me out of alot... but I am so glad to be rid of her... it was worth every penny.
Her replacement is exactly the opposite and I can't spend enough time with her... the way it should be. :)
Now.. off to the PyramidAir.com website to do some more research.

I have dispatched some ground hogs humanely with BBguns just got to get em in the ear. been there done that but takes a good shot. once dropped one that dug a hole in a storage of trusses & was ruining the trusses. it was in a area that 22 wasnt safe. I took him on the run. was a heck of a shot I have to admit but he heeded to go.

I just bought (1 month ago) a Rugar 1000FPS break bbl .177 as my good old bb gun managed to disappear when I was in military. (mom sold it in a yard sale for 10 bucks :( )
the Rugar was 99 bucks on sale at our local gun store "Fin Feather & Fur" but DIcks or DUhams has same one same price last week and seems to shoot real well. AMMO is the part to consistency. It is rather heavy and has an adult stock rather than a kids stock. It is heavier than the 10-22rugar I love so much.

The GAMO are also good guns heard a lot about them & was leaning on getting one of those when the RUGAR went on sale. The GAMOs are about 10~20 bucks more for same FPS guns. Benjermans/Sherdans were made in Germany & back in 70~80s were top Air guns still are very good but not sure ANY of them are made outside China. You are right the Crossman/Daisy are pretty much bottom of the line for power & accuracy. back 30 years ago they had good guns but now even their top of th eline are marginal at best & probably made in china as well.
