pellet stove pointers?

Agree with the other, good quality stove, and good hardwood pellets. For $220 ton you can buy good hardwood pellets.

I have a Harman xxv, great stove. Can burn a half ton before I have to clean the ash dump. My old cheaper stove you cleaned daily.

I thought softwood pellets were the better ones

Some do claim that softwood pellets have more BTUs. One thing to look for is low ash and low fines, they burn cleaner and leave less ash to be cleaned up. I think the premium versions are less than 1% ash and fines

The best wood pellets I have burned are the somerset brand.Heat very well with little ash/fines.

Harman P-68 pellet stove here.Heats my 2100 square foot house.It burns anything you put in it but I prefer a good softwood pellet for the low ash and high btu.

I wood (sic) burn coal in a heart beat.

If I didn't have so much wood around. I'm looking into it any way. I've got a coal "water heater, a "Central 20 c" and an unused chimney to go with.

I'm also looking at pellets to replace the downstairs wood stove (Fischer log wood) Just something that would run all winter and keep the chill off until the parlor wood stove warmed the evening meal.

Coal sure seems attractive. There is a lot of heat in a ton of anthracite!
