Moved out of the city into the country several years ago - and love it out here!!! But it is a different life! Take yesterday for example..
Started out as a nice (but cool and windy) day. I am harvesting the last of next winter's firewood and getting it in to season. I found it is easier to harvest in the winter while all the vegitation is down and manage to "stay warm" cutting.
Bringing first load of wood back to the wood shed, I found my neighbor's horse grazing in our front yard! She had escaped her pasture and was testing out the "grass is greener on the other side" saying. She is kind of skittery, so had to call the neighbor to come get her...
Was out in the back woods section working on the last load for the day, when it started hailing pea sized ice out of a clear sky! Not big enough to hurt or do damage, but caught me by surprise! It ws 10 minutes to cover, so all I could do was throw my coat on and take a break - enjoy the show. But was glad it wasn't bigger pellets!!
Then finished up splitting (hydraulic splitter) some of what I felled. But I have to keep an eye on my "helper" - our chocklet lab thought I was spliting chew sticks for him, so he kept trying to sneak into the shed and pull wood out for himself! It was funny watching him try to casually sneak over to the pile and pull a split out when he thought I wasn't paying attention!
Never had days like this in the city! Thank goodness Ican enjoy them now!
